I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

As I wrote the review for Leprechaun 1, I shall write this one and with more enthusiasm, since this was way better. YES, this 2nd installment of the devilish little heathen known as The Leprechaun was cooler and better than the 1st one.The acting was a little more colorful and less dull than the original. It moves the setting from a droll backwoods scenery to a vivid but gloomy tourist part of the land of the free. The stars of this one actually tried their best to sell this plot and most of it goes to Sandy Baron as Morty, who you may recognize as Jack Klompus from the legendary show "Seinfeld". Anything Mr Baron did was awesome, he was a genuine character who always added his brash humor into any part he played. The Leprechaun, as always, did his part and sold the antagonistic delivery. Part of his charm is the way he rhymes and can actually command your attention with his creepy antics. In this movie, he returns after being ''killed'' in the original and searches for his long lost bride which he finds after a 1000 years and is a direct bloodline next of kin to the one he originally wanted back then. The movie is not much to analyze but it is fun to watch and makes an otherwise sketchy script work nicely. Don't put too much thought into it. If you see it on SyFy, treat yourself, you deserve a laugh and this movie is great at delivering it without overdoing the horror.

Released in 1992, "Leprechaun 2" switches the location to Hollywood where a young guy named Cody (Charlie Heath) runs Darkside Tours with his swindler uncle Morty (Sandy Baron). A devilish Leprechaun (Warwick David) shows up with his eyes on Cody's girlfriend, Bridget (Shevonne Durkin), because she's the descendant of a woman he wanted to make his bride a thousand years earlier. Can Cody and Morty save her? I've only seen the first four Leprechaun movies and this first sequel is definitely an all-around improvement, likely because the filmmakers had over twice the budget. The first movie was hindered by a limited location (a rural ranch house) and a monotonous story that got dull and redundant after 40 minutes. "Leprechaun 2," by contrast, is compelling throughout for what it is, a low-budget horror/comedy. Davis is consistently amusing as the titular imp, Heath & Baron make for quality protagonists and Shevonne looks great (although she's not the best actress). The film runs 85 minutes and was shot in Los Angeles.GRADE: B-

This movie is funny on so many levels. Whatever horror/comedy mash-up the directors of this series are aiming for, I think they did the best job on this one. I liked it better than the first one because the Lepruchaun came into the story earlier. I could kind of relate to the lead, who isn't running ragged trying to impress a girl with lots of crap getting in the way at his age? I loved the drinking scene with the Lepruchaun and Morty. Apparently if the green guy gets drunk enough he CAN lose his powers. Lot's of over-the-top deaths , including one with an espresso machine of all things. The graphics in the Lepruchaun's house were pretty good by B-movie standards, and that's how I judge this thing, mainly because it is a sequel centering around a killer Lepruchaun. I guess, compared to the other ones (I've seen 5 out of 6 of these things) I thought the other characters were a little more developed than in the others. It also brings our ways-to-kill-an-evil-Lepruchaun count to 2. What I'm saying is, this movie is so bad it's good. I can't give it much higher than a 6 because it is thoroughly a B-movie but I think it can be fun for the right audience. For fans of bizarre movies I recommend it. If you and you're friends want something to laugh at, especially when you're up half the night or more, this will do it.

It's truly amazing how much life that this "Leprechaun" series has had. It's endured for over 20 years; there's even a remake in the works. Then again, I suppose there's something to be said for this kind of dumb fun. And make no mistake, it *is* dumb. But it's also genuinely funny at times, and is not without a clever moment or two. The makers of these movies know that they're not making Shakespeare, and create agreeable horror comedies that may have some viewers groaning, shaking their heads, and struggling to get through them, and others having a fine old time. Making a difference is star Warwick Davis (it is nice to have seen him so gainfully employed), whose enthusiasm is hard to resist. He's obviously enjoying himself. In his second performance as the gleefully sadistic Leprechaun, he attempts to snag himself a hot young wife. But his slave interferes (the girl that the Leprechaun selects is his daughter), and 1,000 years later the Leprechaun resurfaces to amorously pursue his slaves' descendant, a girl named Bridget (sexy blonde Shevonne Durkin). Naturally, Bridgets' boyfriend Cody (Charlie Heath) isn't going to sit idly by and watch a demented fairy take his lady away. So Cody teams up with his irrepressible drunken uncle Morty (veteran comedian Sandy Baron) to do battle.Baron is a real scene stealer, and in addition to the attractiveness of co-star Durkin and the performance of Davis, does provide some justification for sitting down to watch this. The movie does get tiresome at times - and, for something running just under 85 minutes, it does drag a little - but it's amusing often enough to make for decent entertainment. At the very least, it does find the time to feature cameo appearances by the legendary Clint Howard and Kimmy Robertson of "The Last American Virgin" and 'Twin Peaks' as a pair of tourists. Also showing up are Al White (one of the jive talking dudes from "Airplane!"), Tony Cox ("Bad Santa"), and Billy Beck ("The Blob" '88). Production design, lighting, and visual effects are good, but there won't be enough gore for some tastes, especially considering the fate of one character. The music by Jonathan Elias is actually damn good. This is about as enjoyable as any movie titled "Leprechaun 2" could be.Five out of 10.
