It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

THE UNTOLD STORY is perhaps one of the most infamous of all the Category III thrillers made in Hong Kong, and certainly one of the films that helped to kick start a whole wave of sleaze and depravity in 1990s Hong Kong cinema. It's based on a true story that happened in Macau in 1985, in which a restaurant worker ended up butchering his colleagues. Two unconnected sequels were to follow, while star Anthony Wong find himself typecast in similar roles for the rest of the decade.Given that this is an outrageous Hong Kong movie, everything plays out in an over the top fashion. There's one of the nastiest and most explicit rape sequences you'll ever seen, alongside some truly horrendous murder scenes which don't skimp on the visceral mayhem. A late-stage flashback depicting the murder of an entire family is particularly gruelling. Anthony Wong transforms himself into a crazed and frightening figure as the villain of the piece, while Danny Lee holds it together with his typical cop performance. I didn't like it quite as much as THE EBOLA SYNDROME, but it's certainly one of those films that gets in your head.

Hong Kong movies are not known for extreme cruelty, but this movie is. I watched this movie after seeing the "Untold Story 2". It was very civilized compared to this one.A butcher at the "Eight Immortals Restaurant" (Anthony Wong) likes to butcher a livelier piece of meat than his usual pork and beef. But it's difficult to hide such criminal acts for long, and he ends up in jail. None of the inmates likes him, and he gets tortured, first by the inmates, and later by the inspectors. While the guy was deserving of the treatment he got, this is an extremely disturbing movie to watch. Cruelty, and violence is off the chart. The credit goes to Anthony Wong for playing this extremely gritty role, and he made this movie work. He's an international star now, and very deserving as such. This is one of his early crowning achievementsOne thing I can say about Anthony Wong is that he maintains his youth very well. After 20 years since this movie was made, he still looks the same as when he starred in this movie. No bars held psycho action, that is not recommended for the faint of heart.

The first Cat III movie I ever watched. Wow, I was blown away by this one. I know this certainly has some love on the board (in fact I can't remember anyone saying they didn't like it, that has watched it) but I believe this deserves more recognition and a wider audience. The subject matter is probably not for everyones..(ahem)..taste - featuring cannibalism, rape, child killing and brutal violence, however director Herman Yau and writer Law Kam Fai have created a horror masterpiece. The story is grisly and Yau doesn't turn the camera away from most of the violence. Its visceral and shocking and for me a breath of fresh air. The story is rather simple, a psychotic goes on the run and ends up working in (or maybe owning??) a restaurant. Although he is not stupid, he cannot control his murderous urges to try and claim, what he believes, is rightfully his. I won't go any farther with plot details as its more fun finding out by yourself Some people view the "comedic" parts involving the police (most notably a female police officer who is continually harassed by her male colleagues - although at times she gives as good as she gets) to be out of place and ham fisted. While I couldn't really argue too much with that, I thought it gave some light relief from the deadly serious tone of the rest of the movie. It certainly didn't detract too much for me anyway. Finally, I believe that this movie would not be anywhere near successful without Anthony Wong. He was the deal breaker. He won a Hong Kong Film Award for his performance and absolutely deserved it. I really can't tell you how impressed I was with his performance, but you need to see it for yourself. Outstanding. TTKK's Bottomline - If you can..(ahem)..stomach the subject matter, this movie is pure horror gold.

This notorious CAT III classic is a definite favorite among gore-hound's. Anthony Wong delivers a creepy and incredible performance as the sicko chef, Wong Chi Hang. Horribly killing and dismembering anyone who crosses his path and turning them into human meat pies. You will never look at Asian food the same way again after seeing this, trust me. This one has it all folks, so grab a beer, some popcorn (No meat buns) and kick back to enjoy this sick flick.*Spoilers*The story starts off with two men in a room fighting over a gambling game. The one man then proceeds to brutally attack and beat the other man to a bloody pulp. He then douses him with gasoline and lights him up like a Christmas tree. Fast-forward some years ahead and the man, known as Wong Chi Hang (Anthony Wong) is sporting a new look and working as a manager in a restaurant. But after some of his workers end up missing and body parts are found, the police start to get suspicious and take him in for questioning. What he reveals to them is most disturbing.
