Good concept, poorly executed.
A Masterpiece!
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
I thought with the talented big names, this was a sure thing for some dumb laughs. Nope. Two stars, both of them for the camera operators, lighting people, and all the others who had to watch this travesty being made. Not only is it not funny, but it is wholly predictable and dull. The characters are soulless and devoid of humanity. The actors mostly seemed to know it, too, and there was nothing even Wil Ferrell could do to save it. I was really in the mood for a good comedy and this wasn't it. The only good thing about this film is that it proves that good comedy isn't easy. Apparently it is extremely difficult.
I wasn't expecting much, I am a Will Farrell fan but I knew from other people it was bad. I just wanted a film to watch late on a Sunday night, something easy, something I didn't have to think about to much. Unfortunately it had the opposite affect on me, it wasn't easy it was painful. Painful to watch and I am thinking about it, I'm thinking about how bad it was. It's quite upsetting. I've never written a review until now. It's almost 1AM and I have work tomorrow. If your thinking about watching this just watch The Campaign again or one of his earlier films. If your a fan this will just disappoint you.
While this movie is a little far fetched, I could actually relate to it. As a senior in college I can remember how awful it was applying to colleges and realizing what my parents could or could not afford, how hard they worked for me, and how excited they were that I was going to college. I am a huge Will Farrell and Amy Poehler fan, and the two of them together is comedic gold. The cast is jam-packed with other well-known comedians and I am automatically drawn to any movie with these actors/actresses in them. This movie plays on what parents and college students joke about doing when they can't afford things - becoming a stripper, robbing a bank, or betting all their money ... I could not stop laughing throughout the entire movie.
Look it is completely brainless humor.... So funny! Like all great comedy you either love it or hate it. I loved it!!!!
