Well, they waited 49 years to make a movie adaptation of one of the most beloved TV shows of all time. It wasn't worth the wait. I admit to having probably only seen one episode of the actual show, but this was still terrible. It really is a huge problem with how they changed everybody's race. It hurts that it's set in modern times and it gets used as an excuse for dumb modern references. From what I have seen of the show, this was nothing like it at all.Actually, that doesn't even matter that much. Even if it was just a stand alone movie, it would still be really bad. Everything is just so bland and clichéd. I could barely find a synopsis for this film and that's because the plot is so random it doesn't matter. It doesn't work even as any episode of a TV show. I feel bad for this being the lowest rated film Roger Ebert ever gave a thumbs up to. *1/2

A study in prejudice, not of anyone in the movie, but of all outraged fanboys giving this one star. Yeah, they sure pre-judged this flick. Guys, its not that bad. After seeing the competent sets and acting and cinematography, I was ready to blame the script. What else would account for all the hate? But the script is pretty good, downright clever, and a really smart vamp off of the old TV show. The real problem must be that neither fat or black sells very well at the box office. Imagine John Goodman as Ralph and I doubt it would have done better. Blowhard fat guy might work for him as a secondary character in The Big Lebowski, but its can't carry a movie. So maybe go art film and use Rosie O'donnell as Ralph in an interracial lesbian marriage. That's pretty topical, Palme d'Or material to boot.Well, we saw what happened with Ghostbusters, so why trade racism for misogyny in the fanboys? Lets pretend its the first day of shooting and we have to Winston Wolfe this film. Fat and black don't sell, so I would go with pretty and black, and make the film center on the two female leads. Don't fall victim to Cedric's "thang" and stop finding amusement in a fat guy dancing. I know its PG-13, but why pass up the chance for social commentary, so lets have Ralph deal drugs for fast cash. We can all laugh along as he gets wired on crank and bounces off the walls, and then switches to heroin and passes out driving the bus, so he turns to LSD and spends the rest of the film waving a lit cigarette in front of his face. Funny funny stuff. In the end we can have Alice save the day by pimping some schoolgirls-- "Hose 'em off and check their beepers Trixie!" Funny funny stuff. The film can focus on how Alice holds everything together and saves the day. Gyrrll power, yeah, more topical yet. And no need to trade one flavor of racism for another, let Leguizamo be Norton, either with a black wife, or get Susan Boyle to play Trixie. 85 million domestic box and think of the action figure revenue. The Ralph Kramden accessory kit with hypos and crack pipes and eyedroppers should bring in 3 million alone.

As a child I watched Jackie Gleason's variety show, where one of the regular sketches was "The Honeymooners". I later had the opportunity to watch some reruns of the old black-and-white sitcom with its brilliant performances.I had high hopes for this movie, and I wasn't really disappointed. I just enjoyed it for what it was. A silly two hours with commercials with some reasonably talented actors making me laugh with ridiculous situations. But I couldn't help but think that someone out there could have done it better. After all, Jackie Gleason, Art Carney and Audrey Meadows were some of the greatest comic actors ever. No one in this movie even came close.John Leguizamo gives a real standout performance here. If anyone is talented out of this cast, he is. But Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps and Gabrielle Union all give good performances too. It's just that this movie was probably on the same level as Tyler Perry or Martin Lawrence. Fun, but nothing that could be called "The Greatest".The women working? No way Jackie Gleason would let his wife work, remember? Audrey Meadows, however, would have put him in his place if she had ever needed to work. And as I recall, she was too pretty for the role. Gabrielle Union is gorgeous. The storyline with the dog is kind of ridiculous and miraculous. But it made me laugh. The movie's villain is too cartoonish. But I always hoped he wouldn't get that great house and that our heroes would.Don't expect too much, but it's not so bad.

When I say this is the worst movie ever made, I seriously mean it! I'm not going to waste my time on this review, so I'll make it short. The Honeymooners is was my favorite show growing up, and it was ruined. Cedric the Entertainer as Raulph! I still think it's a nightmare. First of all, Jackie Gleason is dead. So the perfect ode to his remembrance was to make a film with an all black cast? Okay, not to sound racist, because I am not, but that show deserved a white cast. Why? Because THAT'S WHAT IT WAS WHEN IT WAS MADE!Here's an idea, remake the movie Boyz in the Hood ... but give the lead role to Larry the Cable Guy co-starring Jeff Foxworthy and Ben Stiller. Get the picture? All in all, The Honeymooners was the most terrible movie I've ever seen, thanks again, Hollywood, for ruining my favorite program.
