Electra (1996)

Excellent, Without a doubt!!

Excellent adaptation.

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

Shown on local TV recently, this film attracted my interest because of its classical title, (totally belied by the contents). Sadly I found it a very ugly film that I would not recommend to anyone except perhaps those who enjoyed the live dismemberment sequences in such turgid melodramas as "Bordello of Blood". In retrospect, I regret that I did not turn it off promptly, but it was saved by a sort of perverted style and logic. For example the chief villain was a paraplegic named (Cock)roach,. which somehow got reduced to Roach - this unfortunate loss seems to have started the long sad story. It stars Shannon Tweed who is not noted for sophisticated performances. Films in which I have previously seen her have been straightforward action thrillers, often with added eye candy in the form of the lightly clad and highly gymnastic unarmed combat sequences in which she excels. Some of these movies had even incorporated "naked into their titles - the last that I saw was Naked Lies, a fairly straightforward and business like thriller no better and no worse than many others featured on late night television. It is now too late, but consideration could have been given to re-making this as Naked Electra, to enable some of its more gross sequences (such as one character cutting out the heart of another and passing it on to a third as a snack) to be exorcised and replaced by a few more sequences where Shannon could have displayed her undoubted combat ability, and also perhaps some of the sundry other assets she often featured when she was Queen of the Playboy empire. Done well enough, this might even have justified increasing the rating I have given it from an undeserved one star to as high as perhaps three stars.After the North American film industry abandoned the Hayes code, it retained for many years a series of unofficial voluntary taboos on displaying material regarded as still being extremely controversial, or socially unacceptable. These taboos have gradually faded away but I believe they could still serve a useful function in protecting the industry from rising public wrath when they find they have paid good money for what is quite simply disgusting material - such as the sequence referred to above. Had I unsuspectingly bought this film as a DVD I would have been furious. Cannibalism is an acceptable component of some serious movies as well as others which are simply satirical; but films which present it as pure humour are simply gross and should never have been released. I know some will wish to raise an outcry about this statement, but I believe most IMDb users would agree with me. In the old days we would have demanded our money back from the cinema manager, today major studios should be expected to give all DVD purchasers the right to a refund if any such contents are not clearly and adequately indicated up front.

I recently purchased this film off ebay recently and i figured to buy it and see if its any good? The fighting within the film is not as what you call first rate, i've seen better, but the scenes were good. Also you get outtakes from the film, e.g. making line mistakes etc. Shannon Tweed does a good job of playing a innocent mum to mistress to the evil "roach", what a name. I've seen quite a few of Shannon Tweed's films, some of which i have on DVD, Body Chemistry 4 to name one, Overall i rated this 3 stars as its OK in some places, but her other films have done a lot better. If you've got a collection of her films like I have, add this one to spice it up slightly.

Electra.. The new movie starring Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed.. I saw this a few years ago.. I must admit, it was one of the most terrible movies I've seen.. My Sister and I watched it.. We were just laughing our heads off throughout the movie..In this film, you got this funny looking billionaire Roach (STEN EIRIK) who looks like something out of Dr Who.. looking for a serum which can turn some human into superhuman.. The serum is in a teen kid's body, Billy (JOE TABB).. So Roach send his guys to keep Billy's butt and get the serum from him..As it goes on, there were so many flaws in that film.. I really couldn't get the hang of anything on there..So, I felt like this is totally gross.. Pure pappy-show! I know for a fact, Ashok Amritraj made produced some really good action films.. But this is one of his worsts..Well, in the world of film-making.. There are some good points and there are some bad points.. I'm just looking at the bad..It's terrible! Not my cup of tea! Awful! 1 out of 10!

Seriously, someone needs to be taken out and shot for this movie. It's funny, I checked it out, this movie wasn't even shot in Watertown, NY like it said it took place in. The acting is so poor. Shannon Tweed adds to her horrible career in B-Movies. To sum it up, it is about a moral (and cheesy looking) teenager who holds in his blood serum for eternal life. It can only be taken from his body and given to the bad guys through sexual contact. And since the main character is attracted to his widowed step mom, how better for the evil people to get it, than to have mother and son engage in an act of perversion. However, I must say, despite my lack of respect for this movie, that it is a must see because it offers the viewer such unintentional comic relief.Roach, the powerful man who owns a company trying to attain world domination is so pathetic. The women commandos, who are supposed to be the warriors of this international corporation, are clad in leather, and instead of driving in limos, the all powerful Roach people ride around in a van with the name of the company painted on it. I'd honestly rather watch flies engage in incest than watch this movie a second time. But, I'm glad I could get some laughs off of it.
