It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

As others have said, this movie is not as funny as the TV series. I think it's because cinema movies are supposed to please a broader audience, especially abroad, like in the USA. So, the typical British black humor of The League of Gentlemen is almost entirely absent here. In addition to it, the story is a bit too silly.I'm glad I didn't see this film in a cinema, but on my notebook. I fast forwarded many times, because some parts were very childish. It was like watching a Hollywood movie for teenagers. They should have made a cinema movie that looks like the TV series, which is great. Instead, they chose to make "something completely different", but different is not always better, especially when fans expect to see in a movie what they love in the TV series.

I knew nothing about the 'Royston Vasey' sketches when I watched the movie and thus, it was very confusing, messy and difficult for me to follow. However, after seeing the movie, I watched the special features which clarified a lot of things. Then, I watched the film again and this time I was able to enjoy and appreciate it to the fullest. So I would recommend that someone get a glimpse of the TV-series, 'The League of Gentlemen' before watching its movie. It's well executed with some great special effects and makeup and some hilarious cameos. Actors and writers Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith do a fine job. The humour is definitely over the top and the story is larger than life and full of comedies of errors but once you know what to expect, it's much easier to enjoy this morbidly funny ride.

According to the blurb on the back of the DVD case; Jonothan Ross 'laughed until a little bit of wee came out'. I suspect that that has more to do with his being full of it.I never watched the series for one reason or another, so maybe I'm missing some essential cues. As to this movie; I watched the first 45 minutes or so. I laughed once, smiled once, then reached for the newspaper whilst waiting for something else entertaining to happen. Nothing did.Evidently intended to be a surreal spoof upon life in the post-Python, gross-humour style, this one falls absolutely flat. There's been a host of comedy series on television in the last few years, not the least of which were 'Bottom', 'The Fast Show' 'The Vicar Of Dibley' and 'Father Ted', each one engaging a group of bizarre but hilarious characters and sketches. Any one of these could knock this crap into a cocked hat.If the series was anything like this movie; I'm surprised they got the funding. Happily it was one of those £2 Tesco bran-tub purchases and is now in the local charity shop. The moral of the story is; don't believe the pundits, never pay top dollar.

Now i know a lot of people thought that this film was just a flop but i didn't.it had some great lines and acting.i did however thought the cameos were limited.the idea is great so if you are a fan of the series then its definitely for you :):):):)it brings out the more dark side of the league of gentlemens and shows they can write a horror film if they wanted to.I don't understand why people don't like this film as i found it rather enjoyable but then again I'm a fan of the series. So if you fancy a night in with a decent film don't get this until you've seen the series as you may not understand the characters as well as fans do. its a great film all along.
