The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

This movie was so cute! Honestly I thought it was so funny to see Wilimenia have a crazy mother who is having a baby and shut out from her family. Jesus, I think no daughter would want to have a nagging mother like that haha!I swear Will and Vivian were meant for each other, I can just see right from the start when they both met years later at the vending machine. Viv must really really like her from years ago since she was a bit of a flirt to Will. I thought the actress who played Vivian was really tall, she is so beautiful, she's like a model! Every actress that took part in this were beautiful! If you feel like you want a good laugh and love romantic movies, watch this!

Saving Face is your usual coming out story about acceptance. There is another side plot thrown in which nicely matches the main story. It has a good story with likable characters. Most of the actors have done a good job. Joan Chen is the only one who shines. I was disappointed with performance of Michelle Krusiec though. She is the main lead and has the maximum screen time. I don't think that she was able to do justice to her character. Though it is billed as a romantic movie, I felt that the romance between the two leads was not fully explored. Despite its flaws, Saving Face is an engaging tale. And if you like romantic movies you should give it a go.

This is the first comment which I have scripted so please be forgiving in your critique.I watched this movie for the first time last night and have to say that I am definitely going to add it to my DVD collection. Although it is 3 years old and does require you to read subtitles in part, it is one of the most moving, humorous, emotional and heartwarming movies I watched in a long time. The script and concept are particularly original within the ethnic climate in which the movie is set, and provides a particularly clear and incisive insight into American/Chinese society. In fact it illustrates that although there are cultural differences within all ethnic groups the overall way in which various social and ethical issues are dealt with is not really so different. The same movie could have been made about an Italian/American/Spanish or any other nationality family, within reason, and the overall responses and outcome would have been the same. The overall feel of the movie somehow had an element of truth, and leads me to wonder if this wasn't a portrayal of the script writers own experiences, if this is the case it only makes the movie more watchable and poignant. A great movie all round.

Excellent movie. I wasn't too confident about the movie but after I've seen it I can say that is one o the best I've seen lately. It's funny, witty and deals with modern day issues. Actually, old problems - love, but in new ways. It's worth seeing and I can't wait for another movie from Alice Wu. I think she reached her goal : "What I really wanted is that a 25-year-old white guy could suddenly relate to a 48-year-old Chinese woman ...or a 50-year-old black man could relate to a 29-year-old Chinese doctor. If that works, I've done my job. Once we strip away the differences, we're remarkably similar." Good luck with "Foreign Babes in Beijing "
