Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

Every movie that Marlene Dietrich done quite often she not portrait the character very well...she play itself in almost all movies...in this case happened the same she played a singer who knew all about what's going on table of cards...so suddenly appears the handsome like James Stewart and she turn back to your old pals....frankly is hard to believe, this why Dietrich wasn't take seriously in cinema, apart Rancho Notorious and Blue Angel which she was great...so in my opinion Dietrich was Overrated in your career, she also was arrogant and unfriendly most of actors and actress didn't like to work with her...l know why!!

This is a gem of a movie. Jimmy Stewart comes across as very comical at times, but in one scene he shows fierce anger. The songs are great and very well done. The fight between Janice Tyndall and Marlene Dietrich is a real classic as they really get into the action. The sound of a piano playing makes for an image of the west. I love Charles Winninger's role in this movie. He almost steals the show. I like how Frenchy, in one scene, looks up at Destry and smiles. The scene with the guns firing and the music along with it makes the drama build up. Then, in the bar, at the end of the movie, where the bad guy stands on the second floor watching closely to shoot Tom, but he kills Frency is another classic scene. If you want action, comedy, and a good western you have to see this one. Enjoy!

Destry Rides again is a cool western comedy about a town called Bottleneck having no place for law and order. Tom Destry, son of town's heroic ex-sheriff comes into Bottleneck to become new deputy. Destry's naivety and non-violence makes him joke of the town not aware of his intelligence. It is about how young Destry turns the whole town upside down. It has a wonderful cast featuring young James Stewart in a role which always plays consummately. Marlene Dietrich is also one of the chief attraction of the film, playing a bold and recklessly stunning bar singer. Movie delivers some great laughs and also maintains the seriousness of the story. Overall, it's a solid entertainer. Highly recommended for all Jimmy Stewart fans.

Utterly brilliant! I first saw this film over 40 years ago – it appealed to me then and again just now. I must know every line and backwards too I've seen it so often. It's almost perfect as a motion picture: non stop action and comedy, witty dialogue and good acting from a marvellous cast, great production even down to perfect lighting throughout, memorable scenes galore. More happens in any 2 minutes than in the entirety of some modern films – it's a masterclass of intelligent middlebrow entertainment.Bottleneck is a wide open town run by a rather cartoony collection of baddies led by Brian Donlevy – the sheriff has to suddenly leave and Washington Dimsdale the town drunk is promoted to the job. He has an inspiration to recruit his old friend's son Tom Destry played by James Stewart to the role of deputy to clean up the town – but is mortified when Destry arrives in town gunless carrying a birdcage and "parrysol" looking most ineffectual. As with most first impressions it doesn't last long. Favourite bits out of so many: Destry's arrival; handling guns non-promiscuously to the townsfolks enlightenment; the saloon catfight between the real boss of Bottleneck Marlene Dietrich and Una Merkel; Dietrich's main songs – See What The Boys In The Backroom Will Have was the big hit but I always preferred You've Got That Look; Jack Carson making a crack and getting a swift crack on the jaw by Stewart; Wash's death almost traumatised me when young, it's still a powerful scene – Stewart was always fabulous in reacting to misfortune; the kids singing Little Joe after the mayhem – I wondered whether Peckinpah made a note of it; even Mischa Auer's slapstick antics never overstayed their welcome. It's 90 minutes short – I wish it had been double. I haven't a clue if it could be called one of the cleverest or most meaningful films ever made (after all, as usual with everything it has dated since it was made) but it is one of my top 10 favourite films of all time, it's sheer poetry in motion.
