Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

After watching REC and REC 2 I wanted to see what else foreign films had to offer. This movie held my interest for a while then it got confusing. Most movies that play with time, time lapsing and time travel usually run into some type of conundrum and this movie is no exception. The conundrums vary and I'd be giving away the farm if I explained the one in this movie. If I'm rating this movie on pure enjoyment, I wasn't that pleased. It got quite boring and it wasn't really original or creative. If I'm rating this on a curve because it's a foreign film then I'd give it a couple of extra stars.Truthfully, I think the movie was riddled with plot holes and too many unexplained events. They were throwing red herrings all over the place. I think they caught a case of trying to be too clever and muddled up the plot. Sometimes less is best.

The house at the end of time isn't a straight horror film. In my eyes it was much more a drama film with a sprinkle of horror and some sci-fi.This movie did one of my favorite things to see in movies. The majority of the story is told through flashbacks, or so you think. It's at least presented that way through the first 2/3 of the movie. Then in the third act, when everything starts coming together and connecting, you get the "Aha" moment. It doesn't stop though. The story continues to unfold until everything is completely explained to you and you stop and say "Holy hell, it all makes sense now." The acting in the movie is fantastic. Even the husband, who for the majority of the time does nothing but look distressed, angry, depressed, but never happy, brought so much to the movie. His facial expressions alone make the movie worth watching because he does such a fantastic job with expressing his character so well through them. The mother had a lot more to say than the husband, but the facial expressions are once again what steal the show. So much can be said through the way the eyes that bulge, or the mouth that quivers. Every actor both big and small deserves credit for the amazing work that made this film.I am slowly becoming a HUGE fan of foreign films, especially in the horror genre. Somehow other countries just seem to know how to make better quality films, and for that I say thank you.

Shockingly good! Intricate lovely story, which accounts for the less than stellar ratings I imagine.Like many who are mocked "for reading" in today's world, story lovers are told "you think too much." We are entering the new "dark ages" of 30 second attention spans. Truly a haunted house classic that is very believable.Sure this story requires your attention, when did taking life seriously end? While we laugh ourselves into oblivion - the heathens scorch our earth. Wait... that sounds like it could make a good screenplay/story nay, takes too much thought, after all its just life.

I guessed the film was from Venezuela! It's a minor gem, maybe a cult movie but deserves to be considered in a Year's Ten Best Films. With a twisting time-bending plot quite similar to a Christopher Nolan film, it is in ways superior to most of Nolan's films. For one, despite a small budget and lack of highly experienced actors, it has solid acting and cinematography. Alejandro Hidalgo has to be applauded for how he put this film together and I imagine he will get bigger projects. The film gets a bit lost with its ambitious start in the middle of a crime scene, and hence somewhat confusing at times, a bit melodramatic, and at times a bit flat. However, the last 15- 20 minutes are stellar. As some reviewers suggest, it has heart but it also has intelligence. It's a smart film without special effects. It's not a horror film, despite being marketed as that (perhaps some people didn't see the movie!) but a bit of supernatural-science fiction drama. About love, remembrance…things that transcend time.It is a must see, simply because it shows a minor international director without a budget can produce a film as good as any large production with a top director. A beautiful film, despite its flaws. Sadly it will not get the audience it deserves. My real rating? 7.5-7.7 but I bump it to 8 due to ratings being slightly low. Perhaps some people don't appreciate love and art. And a bit of twist.
