Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

This is such a fun, campy movie. The lack of reality and British leaning comedy are wonderful, and at the same time the movie struck home with the effect of wartime on a human populace. Eddie Izzard is wonderful in this movie; he alone makes it well worth watching. I think it's a vastly under-rated title.

Anyone who knows about Eddie Izzard probably knows that he does a lot of skits in drag. So, his role in "All the Queen's Men" is perfect for him. He plays a man leading a platoon (along with Matt LeBlanc) into Nazi Germany to get information about the Enigma machine. The only thing is, this platoon has to be in drag the whole time, since the factory is run by women. The movie was apparently poorly received by both critics and audiences. I, for one, found it to be a very funny movie, and didn't see anything bad about it. Seriously, you gotta at least check "All the Queen's Men" out before making a decision based on what other people have said. I think that you will actually like it. Really funny.

Despite being technically proficient and featuring some good performances (notably from comic actor Eddie Izzard) this film is a dud. Why? Because the writer and director couldn't decide whether they were making a comedy or a drama. The amusingly contrived tank chase at the beginning of the film should have set the scene for a moderately black comedy, but somewhere along the way someone decided that the reality of war should be portrayed. With Matt LeBlanc playing THE MOST UNCONVINCING CROSS DRESSER IN THE HISTORY OF CINEMA? What were they thinking? You can hear the gears clashing as scene-by-scene, we are jolted from half-baked comedy to unconvincing sentimentality. The final unconvincing, violent and desperate scenes where the team of crack drag commandos hijack a plane to get out of Germany set the seal on this straight-to-video nasty.

As a die-hard Eddie Izzard fan, I saw this on Sky last year purely because he was in it.Although there are moments where disbelief isn't just suspended but actually needs to fly, this is not an easily forgettable piece of curiosity Euro-fluff.Erudite, surprising, challenging and genuinely moving, it gives all the central characters enough play to not just be foils to Matt LeBlanc's ill-at-ease, super-macho American.Overall, well made and worth the time and trouble of getting hold of a copy...
