When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
The most famous depiction of autism on the silver screen is Dustin Hoffman's performance in Barry Levinson's "Rain Man". More recently, that portrayal has drawn criticism for what's gotten seen as a hyperbolic representation of the condition. Ben Lewin's "Please Stand By" is a more nuanced depiction, with a young woman on a journey to a submit a Star Trek script. Some of the things that the movie shows her doing - i.e., trying to block out noise - are in fact the sorts of things that people on the autism spectrum will do.I hope that this movie draws more attention to autism. There are apparently more diagnoses of it than ever before. This could be due to increased understanding leading to more diagnoses, or because there are in fact more people on the autism spectrum than ever before. Whatever the case, I recommend the movie.
How in this day and age did Dakato not win a award for this performance. Absolutely amazing!! Great movie from beginning to end. I'm still standing by!! Loved it!!
This is a great film about creative and individual minds and about ambition and hope. If you are a star trek fan you'll also love this non sci/fi film.I'm giving away no spoilers for Trekkies :-)
If you're watching this movie just because the girl is autistic you're an awful human being, instead of making something based of something real they just create this movie to pretend that these things could really happen and maybe it could happen but it's just a fantasy, maybe a dream.
