It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Bad screen play, bad story writing, bad acting, bad ending...
Gunday was a controversial illustration. Ranveer Singh posted as a vulnerable romantic. Arjun Kapoor played the unrequited and jealous lover. Priyanka Chopra delivered a temptress. Irrfan Khan acted as the authority figure. The setting in Kolkatta made for the few short dance sequences. Irony compelled a must-see ending. Bangladesi people were a little outraged with the script's emphasis of Indian and downplay of Bangladesi contribution in the Indo-Pak war. Bangladesh and India each appeared in this ode to Kolkatta's plight. Factual evidence could have been clearly subject to bias for the target audience, yet the entertainment factor had been the main draw. Aditya Chopra produced one of the few Bollywood films having a superhero duo for a fun spirit like Dhoom!
This movie had NOTHING special. First of all they completely confused Indians on how Bangladesh got its independence. IT WAS NOT COMPLETELY BECAUSE OF India! India did help, we are completely grateful for that. Really are! But you also gotta remember the bloodshed of three lakh Bengalis!! It basically gave no importance to that. Second of all, what is so SPECIAL ABOUT THIS MOVIE?? Just a freakin love triangle. Except its setting is way back in time. THAT IS IT!!! JUST those masala movies. I request everyone to not waste their time and money. The only reason I am giving 2 stars to this film was because of the songs. The songs were very much acceptable. But really expected much more from these 3 actors. I hope that indians boycott these kind of movies. So that there will be room for creativity.
The liberation war which was started in 1971 was not between India & Pakistan. it was between Bangladesh & Pakistan. This film has given the wrong information that the war was between India & Pakistan. it is a matter of great regret the makers of "Gunday" have no sense with their work. it should also be noted that India helped Bangladesh in the liberation war. But the war was between Bangladesh & Pakistan. i repeat Bangladesh & Pakistan. 3 million people of Bangladesh sacrificed their lives for their country. 2 lakhs womens of Bangladesh were raped by the Pakistan army. if you don't know the actual information just stay out of this or try to know the right information.
