Finding Carlton - Uncovering the Story of Jazz in India (1)
A bygone age of jazz in India, told through the moving portrait of one of its last survivors, the bebop guitarist Carlton Kitto. Weaving verite scenes of Carlton's isolated, impoverished, yet passionately dedicated existence with archival material and poignant encounters with other artists, an untold story of cultural cross-pollination emerges: pre-war African-American diaspora, American Army presence in Calcutta during World War II, Jazz in Bollywood and US State Department sponsored jazz tours in India. Musical performances and archival music accentuate a story that spans a historical arc from 1926 to the 1980s Finding Carlton revives the intense power of a largely undocumented jazz movement.

Good story, Not enough for a whole film
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
