Good movie but grossly overrated
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
I was seriously offended by this racist film, and being an asian does not grant you any immunity for being a racist. I truly wish that the artist, Shi, considered how general public from asian region would have felt watching it. I am so much disappointed at pixar's judgement... we just went to see a good old family movie and had to put up with this thing for 8 min
Ok, so I saw this short with zero information beforehand, and I wish I had been a little more prepared. The cartoon style is beautiful, the story is sweet and real, and everything was fine (relatively, it is pixar after all) until THE BIT. If you've seen it, you know the part exactly. Yes yes, I know its a metaphor. Yes I know it was just a device to aid the storytelling, but it is SO unexpected and it WILL make you feel things. Just trying to warn you so you don't choke sob in a cinema full of people like I did.
The people who say that they didn't get Bao are, in my opinion, either unable to grasp metaphors or have no understanding of generational conflict in immigrant communities. Anyone who comes from an immigrant culture will recognize the tension between the loving but overprotective mother and the son to whom growing up means embracing all of the possibilities of the country he was born in. And I mean embracing literally; the fiancee, with her blond hair, white blouse and tartan skirt, is the image of the classic shiksa. It's a clever retelling of an old story, with a sweet reconciliation after the crisis. I agree with the commenters who say that very young children find it frightening, but then very young children should not be taken to Incredibles II simply because it is a cartoon. The target audience is kids old enough to identify with Dash or older. A seven or eight year old ought to be able to grasp both the mom who won't let you grow up and the idea that it was all a bad dream.
Pixart always gets what touchs people's empathy nerve. We all feel lonely and wanting for company, some finds video game, some finds pets. You know what my strongest though while watching incredible 2? Jac jac is so cute and i want to have a baby too.Think back to this short film. Emmm.
