Wonderful character development!
The Worst Film Ever
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
There are two main plotholes to this story: 1- Why would a genius so smart to have been able to build such a complex world be so stupid to let so many childish software bugs exist in the world so that the captive copies can use them against him? How can you even make an actual thinking person being able to remember their past or parallel life by a copy of their DNA? 2- Why would a genius build a virtual world in which there is a wormhole by which the captives can not only escape from it but also get him entraped to death?! Not so genius.
Didn't realize was watching an episode....almost a movie. And man the story!!!!! Must watch
I know "black mirror fans" hates this one because it's not 'bleak' or maybe because it doesn't turn out with a bad ending, maybe it is a little clitche at the ending but guess what... it's THE BEST black mirror produced so far.I've been a fan of the series since season 1, this episode is by far the best structured with one of the most fulfilling stories, good characters, a flawed and perfectly executed villain and an incredible story well told. This is what cinema should be about. We shouldn't be judging chapters by how "similar" they are to the concept or if it's doing the series a well deserved black ending, we should be enjoying chapters for how good they are written how satisfying they are.Being a Trek fan AND a gamer, I would say I loved all the references. There are lots of good details inside, this is my new found GEM.
It could have scored higher had there not been grade-school science mistakes like what is encoded in DNA and how programming actually works (and doesn't). The drama is certainly fine, but it doesn't rise to the level of other virtual reality episodes like White Christmas and San Juniper, which much more nail the internal logic of their sci-fi "what if?" scenario. There also needed to be a really solid reason why the newcomer was so easily able to do what the others (at least the other programmer) hadn't been able to do for a long time. That deux-ex-machina was consistent with the cheesy "Space Fleet" story lines (which made total sense), but not with the the real world and what we've come to expect from solid Black Mirror scripts. The entire "call a pizza on the guy to distract him so you can enter his home and take stuff" was right out of a sitcom practically. Simply put, the script needed to be scrutinized a lot more. The actual idea was wonderful, and merited more solid logic to it all.I hope this isn't a trend. It was the first episode where everything seemed American, which tends to dumb down things more so than stuff from the UK, and choosing spectacle over substance.
