Goldfish Memory (2003)
A small group of friends experience relationships which grow and stumble, involving everything from straight, gay, lesbian, and bisexual relationships. The speed with which these relationships last leads to the Goldfish memory effect, the belief that a Goldfish only has a 3 second memory is a metaphor for the transient nature of the characters relationships.

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
I can sum up this movie with one word, "YAWN." Hardly interesting at any level, Goldfish Memory is a long, tedious look at the loves and loses of a group of Dubliners. And that would be group of people you have little reason to care about. I cannot understand where all these positive write ups came from - friends of the producers no doubt. This little production is bit better than most of the films showing on the "here!" channel. But that is not saying much. My best suggestion is to turn the film into a drinking game. Down a shot everything the director cuts to a shot of a goldfish or goldfish bowl. You will be passed out on the floor in 20 minutes. And with a film like Goldfish Memory, you could consider that a blessing.
"Goldfish memory" is probably more than what is usually labelled"love movie". The multiplicity of narrative layers and the intertwining of the characters' fates seems to remind of a soap opera scenario at times but the actual reflection on love, presented by the director is probably more sophisticated than the scheme of a soap.In the end, all seems to come down to The Beatles: "All you need is love", even if you don't realise it.A simple but not simplistic phrase, even though used and abused for millennial. One need not be enthusiastic about the movie altogether, the way I wasn't, but perhaps it would be worthwhile to sit back and think if it's really just a movie and how does it fit our idea on emotions.
Love, the eternal mystery of Humanity. It's been used as the basis of a billion stories: comedies, dramas, horror movies... Maybe love is THE SUBJECT everything's about. Now Liz Gill tries to do her bit filming this story of crossed lives, heterosexuals that become homosexuals, lesbians who wants to have babies, the fear to commitment (or the need of a commitment)."Goldfish Memory" is a funny movie, tender and kind. Nothing too deep, and it's not pretentious at all either. There are some stereotypes, but that's normal. I guess Miss Gill achieved what she set out: to make us smile watching a group of men and women chasing love just like donkeys chase the carrots.*My rate: 7/10
Man, if you still hesitate to watch this movie go ahead! I've seen quite a bunch of movies about love and relationships in homosexuality and heterosexuality, and this one is excellent. Behind the fact that it's very funny and entertaining, the cast is just perfect, the characters couldn't be more into their parts. The story is touching and true, never boring because it's always renewing when you don't expect it to. It gives you a good taste of life and its turmoils with a delightful sense of humor. It's refreshing really! Too bad there aren't more quality movies like this one... Thank you for this (too short) moment of enjoyment and laughters.
