How far would you go to achieve your dreams? That's the question that Mark Jenkins is constantly asking himself. A young, gay actor fresh out of LAMDA, Mark's got the looks, the ability, and the charisma to go all the way. His agent can get him the auditions, but the parts are just never quite right. That's because in Mark's mind, there's only one man who can help him: James Francis -an older established writer as well as a renowned gay icon. However, what begins as an ambitious idea soon turns into obsession, with Mark slowly gatecrashing the life of his idol.

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

The story is known. the end - not surprising. the performance of Ryan Prescott - too wooded . the chance of Frank Ryan to give more than a good sketch of James - not so significant. all scene has the virtue to remind other films with same subject. in essence - nothing bad. in fact - the lead weakness because Ryan Prescott gives not exactly an admirer, an ambitious young man, a gay fan or an actor. maybe not a stalker. unconvincing performance. and, sure, good intentions.

Mark is a struggling gay actor who can't get a break . His dream gig is working with high profile homosexual writer James and starts pursuing the writer in the hope of becoming famous A short film that is derivative as it is empty and one note GATECRASHER reminds you of THE KING OF COMEDY except it has gay sensibilities . It also reminds you of what a great film maker Martin Scorsese and what a great actor DeNiro was back in the day . At least the audience could sympathise with Rupert Pupkin in that film . Here however the character of Mark is entirely self centered and vacuous in his outlook lacking any blackly comical touch . " You're a gatecrasher " James tells him . No he's a stalker no matter how you want to dress it up . There's also a strong element of having to be both gay and involved in the entertainment industry to understand the points being made .I mean this writer James is a homosexual with a drink problem in the past neither of which makes him an outstanding target for press attention so why is he a big media figure being interviewed on the news ? In fact going back to the derivative nature of this short I'm reminded of an episode of I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE which used a very similar payoff at the end and that was the prior piece . And funny with it . GATECRASHER is merely irritating
