Seeing this film made me feel like America should pursue in solving homophobia more. The problem is that it is bigger country then the rest of the world so there are varieties of religions that puts hatred into people's throats and thats when family relationships fall apart if their loved ones gay. Anna's mum was very well spoken on how the Catholic Church treated her with regards to her daughter being gay but unfortunately, the extremely saddest part was Anna couldn't handle being unloved as a gay person anymore and hanged herself. It makes feel like that society needs to wake up and understand the realistic of being a gay person. Lets see, you were that same person yesterday but what about today? You are still you and that will not change. Why can't anyone question this, it takes a minute to realize the right answer. They say if we all looked the same, it would be boring right? Well it ain't true, our personalities are different but there is one thing that we all need = respect. In the film, I felt very heartbroken that Jake and his parents were arrested because they were just awesome the way they wanted to bring peace and love to the ones that needs a nudge to reality. I think the law everywhere should look it homophobia more because again it has gotten out of control. I want to say well done to everyone involved in the film and I hope that more love will blossom on this troubled earth.

This film was released in 2007 as a documentary basically on what the Bible has to say on homosexuality. The documentary focuses on a handful of individuals and their families and talks over what their religious background is and what it was like for the individual to "come out of the closet" and face their family in a different way. The film also featured segments from speeches by political leaders or from political cartoons back in the day that opposed GBLT people and excluded them from society. This film was quite interesting since I knew about how "the bible says" GBLT is wrong and how those people should be looked down upon and excluded from society. What I did not know prior to watching this film was how intensified it was in the 80's and 90's. The film gave me valuable insight on how people fired at the GBLT people and practically pushed them out of society. With different individuals from different backgrounds, it was interesting to see how they all viewed their sexual orientation before and after coming out to their parents. One thing that all individuals and families had in common was that they were religious in one way or another and that they were all unsure about whether they should come out or not because of how they have been taught about homosexuality in church or other religious places. After watching this documentary, I learned how inaccurate it was to directly quote the bible for saying LGBT is a sin or those who are LGBT should be excluded from society. The film gave me insight on how those who are excluding the LGBT people may actually be at a worse standing point compared to those who are actually LGBT since they are going against Gods unconditional love. Not loving everybody for who they are is considered sinful and therefore you are not being a faithful follower of what God has to say. I also learned how many people misquote things by disregarding the contextual aspect of it. One Bible quote says "You shall note lie with a man as with a woman; it is abomination" (Leviticus 18:22). People misunderstand the meaning of abomination and defines it as "sent to hell" or "go to hell". Abomination in a general sense means ritually unclean or not customary. This film told me not only on the religious level but also in a societal level how quotes are so misused and that we must be aware of what we say. Overall, this film was really interesting for me to watch and learn. It gave me a more full understand of what the Bible has to say about LGBT and how those who are religious, must over come their fears and face the world, regardless of what the consequence may be. I would recommend this film to those who want to know "the truth" behind what the Bible has to say or for those who are just simply wondering what people are referencing to in the Bible.

It was enough for me to hear the demented ramblings of such a paragon of virtue like Jimmy Swaggart, to understand the whole evangelical, religious right. A dash of hard core nationalism and frantic flag waving, a little song, a little dance, easy answers to some of the hardest questions, and when you mix it all up- evangelical Christianity. These preachers calmly dismiss most of compassionate teachings of Jesus Christ, and dig into the Old Testament( by the way, the other people's holy book)randomly. Pick and choose few rules, mostly concerning the gay people, and there it is. They are the righteous, and we are sinners. It must be great to be that simple, to blindly follow the religious music man, and to be stunned when they fail to live up to their so high standards. My religion is much more complex, and it's a life long struggle to do good and be a better person. Good and very useful documentary.

I watched this on Netflix and the information on there says "This Documentary examines the ways in which conservative Christian groups have used - and sometimes exploited - scripture to deny human rights".Yet 95%-98% of the movie is strictly about Homosexuals? Really I kept waiting for them to start talking about something else, one of the many other things the Church pushes against such as abortion, etc.Shouldn't the description be more obvious in that it's not about all human rights, but just homosexuality? So if your hoping to see/hear more than just about one subject, your sadly out of luck.
