Admirable film.
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
I freely admit I am a fan of "The Big Lebowski", though I have not attended a Lebowski Fest. I suppose that is something I need to do sooner or later. While this could be dismissed as a film about a group of losers (which in many ways it is), it is also a great look at American pop culture and the way that something can rise from nothing to take on the world. The original film flopped. Hard. But it grew to become a cult film, and now the few people who decided to meet in a bowling alley are now hosting Jeff Bridges at annual concerts. That just blows my mind. No other film - with the exception of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" -- has this kind of following and attracts this many people.
