The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

This movie is actually pretty good if you've worked in a relevant industry. The movie is from a server's perspective, and involves what they endure. Sure the customer's are over the top, and it can be a little offensive at times (Germans and gays won't like the stereotypes portrayed), but as a whole, it works. Aaron Ashmore in particular was awesome playing his cocky a-hole of a character. John Bregar is like the spitting image of Chris Evans, circa early 2000's.

i don't know why but i went into this movie wanting to dislike it , i caught the first couple of min's as a kind of trailer..... that made me not like it , but once i sat down and gave it my att'n, it took off immediately , ....one of my movie guages ...it should make me laugh within the first 5 mins , at least once , RIgHT?....if its a comedy , ....servitude passed the test , it is at least as good as "waiting". if that means much , .here's a glimpse....manager of restaurant says .."(if we are not a team)then i will take one of those rifles down off the wall right here and just "kurt Cobain" it right here in the middle of the dining room...just end it , right here, boom , blam, (hand gesturing an exit wound out the back of his head)...and i will get your att'n first so you are looking , and you will live with that image for the rest of your lives ...and do you know how much i am joking ? this much..."ya, so , i hate long reviews and this one is stretching ... it's pretty good- servitude. now just start the movie .

I saw Servitude a few hours ago at the Grand River Film Festival in Waterloo and I was really impressed. Not only did it include a great cast (Linda Kash, Dave Foley, Enrico Colantoni) and a great director (Warren P. Sonoda - Textuality), but I found myself laughing constantly. What drew me to go see it was that the plot seemed a lot like the book "Waiter Rant" and it actually was quite similar. Not only were both main characters waiters but they also blogged about waiting tables. I wonder if this movie was at all inspired by that. Both were hilarious. I really enjoyed all the problem customers (the old couple, the passive-aggressive family, the pack of young male douche-bags, the cheap blonde lady) and the unique characters that make up the wait staff. I'd have to say my favourite character was Franz, the Nazi inspector. Never lock a German guy in a room full of Schnapps and pretzels.... I also found myself really feeling for Josh and his girlfriend and career along with the other characters and their hopes and dreams. One thing that kind of bothered me though was that the movie seemed a lot more like a TV show than a movie. Maybe because it was mostly just in one location, which can't be helped because it's about being a waiter at a specific restaurant. Someone said that it would make a great TV series (during the Q&A) and I agree, especially since there are probably so many funny anecdotes about people waiting tables. All around a really awesome movie and definitely worthy of being Canada's first great comedy (in a while)! I can't wait for it to come out so I can see it again and show it to people!

We went to see this movie at the Calgary International Film Festival tonight and laughed more than I've laughed in a theatre since... I can't remember when! This movie was flat-out funny from beginning to end. Basically, Josh is a waiter with a hot snobby girlfriend who is pushing him to quit his waiting job and go to law school. Josh keeps putting it off and stays perhaps just one night too long... or maybe not. In any case, hilarity ensues. This is generally just a very funny film, but you also find yourself caring enough about the characters for it to work on a slightly emotional level too. Definitely see this film! Especially if you have ever worked a service job.
