This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

This was an awkward movie. I laughed at scenes that weren't supposed to be funny like the kid on the small boat getting eaten by the octopus. Oh God, that was funny seeing the mast going down for the final time. The mood of the movie was very odd. All the happy "we're going to sail on the ocean" kid contest was happy then switches to the dark, killer octopus scenes. Very uneven. The music and sound effects were very strange. Sometimes it was nice and soothing, then other times it was jarring. Also, scenes lingering on the actor for too long happened a lot in this film. I could go on. Finally, if you lead up to a scene where there is going to be a human/octopus rape scene. Show it. Don't tease us. Showing 30 seconds to a minute of a woman being violated by an octopus isn't going to kill you.I enjoyed it for what it was. It's not the worst movie I've ever scene. I rated this 7 out of 10 might be a bit high, but it just feels right to rate it this.

This wasn't so bad, with a run time of about 100 minutes and it being an Italian Jaws rip-off this had all the ingredients of a terrible giant monster movie, most underwater monster movies are really boring and cheap, "Tentacles" its neither of those, at least its only that for a few scenes. The music its good, the direction its decent, the acting its serviceable and the attack scenes are not suspenseful but they are fun to watch. One big problem is that its terribly overwritten and most of the plot points it introduces don't really have a conclusion or at least not a satisfying one. Also, this movie has a thing for duality, I don't know if its intentional or not, but that's just something I noticed. For being a movie with real stars and decent effects it could be considered somewhat disappointing but I haven't heard many good things about it, so I decided to give it a decent rating, however, sometimes it was dangerously close to a notorious Ed Wood movie scene.

A mutated giant octopus wreaks havoc on a California seaside community.Although the film was intended to cash in on the success of "Jaws", "Tentacles" also bears numerous resemblances to the 1955 science fiction horror film "It Came from Beneath the Sea". The "Jaws" connection is clear, with the popular seaside community during a certain patriotic festival. But there is that added factor of corporate wrongdoing. The film's score was done by Italian composer Stelvio Cipriani, who scored the similarly Jaws-inspired films "The Great Alligator" and "Piranha II: The Spawning" around the same time. Cipriani's score is one of the most memorable parts of the film, along with Shelley Winters' hats. What is up with her sombrero? The acting is choppy, with only the big name actors even trying, making them seem out of place when compared to everyone else.

Come on people it was not that bad. It was not that good either but what the hey. A giant octopus is rather far fetched but this is the SyFy channel after all. When the orca's are released and swim away you just know they will return to kill the octopus and save their pet human. There are the usual human sacrifices to the killer octopus including a couple of kids. Pathos for those who need it to get involved with the film I guess. Of course the octopus is killed by the orcas and the humans are saved, the orcas swim away and it is assumed (that word again) they have run off to e free. Surprise!!! At the end of the movie they show up to say good bye and then like a watery western they swim off into the sunset.
