It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

The Usual Suspects(1995) was a superb thriller, which won critical acclaim. In 2002, Sanjay Gupta copied the first half from it and made KAANTE and rest from Reservior Dogs. While in the same year 2005, Anubhav Sinha borrowed Kevin Spacey's role from that film and made DUS.That film kept the climax revelation also same, wherein Pankaj Kapur was actually a terrorist acting like someone else. Finally Vivek Agnihotri decided to remake the film and that too unofficially. The film borrows almost 70% from that film and rest is Bollywood stuff. In the original, Kevin Spacey was the only character revealing the story, here we have an added romantic interest Tanushree Dutta. The film tries to be different too, instead of convicts in the original here we have wannabe musicians. The film tries too hard to look cool, we have actors imitate Hollywood styles. In that film An agent interrogates Kevin, here we have Anil play an egoistic lawyer, who acts like a retard many times. There is sex, sleaze everything forced in. There are scenes copied like the interval scene, the boat scene, also the end is almost similar though changed in the indianised version. The film has several loopholes like Suneil Shetty suddenly screaming that he is Murtaza Arzai for no reason. Keazer Soze is changed to Murtaza Arzai with the similar background storyDirection is decent though it's ruined due to the film being a hotchpotch version of the original. Music by Pritam is decent, Jhuki Jhuki,Halka Halka,Mummy, Bheega Bheega sa are all good songs and well picturisations(though mostly aping English songs), Khalish is a good song yet forcedAmongst actors, all mostly try to copy Hollywood style of acting Anil Kapoor does well as Krish Pandit in his own style though his accent seems odd, also he overdoes at times to show eccentric nature of the character. Irrfan Khan is awesome in the role played by Kevin Spacey, Suneil Shetty does his part well, though his accent too jars, Arshad Warsi and Emraan Hashmi are wasted in small roles, Tanushree Dutta in her second film is okay, her voice dubbed by Pallavi Joshi doesn't suit her, Sushma Reddy is okay Raj Jhutsi overacts, rest are all okay The film has weird names for characters like Rocker, Pipi.etc

I always wondered how Bollywood gets away with so much plagiarism so blatantly without facing any law action. Filmmakers, musicians, screenwriters rob Hollywood and other factories for stories, screenplays, music, and what not (I remember even Ashutosh Govarikar's debut film was fickle attempt to remake Brian De Pelma's Body Double, David Dhavan's Partner(Hitch), almost all of Bhatt camp movies Raaz (What lies Beneath). If it is done right or at least watchable (Zaher(Out of Time), Mujhase Shaadi Karogi mild recommendations) audience never minds this overt larceny. Vivek Agnihotri (he made Identity into some ridiculous Ek Tufaaani Raat) set his eyes on great Usual Suspects and tried to concoct a popcorn flick with potboiler intentions. Film suffers from poor writing (adaptation is more appropriate word), direction, production values (one robbery sequence where I burst out laughing). As if enough damages hasn't done there are one or two miscasts like Suniel Shetty (biggest miscast in any film anyway, though credit him for dragging himself so long with help of industry Dosti-Yaari) to do the rest. But movie has some real good songs-item songs, Tanushri Datta cleavage and new twist ending. Watch if you stumbled on this flipping channels.

hmmmmm....nice movie! thats what i uttered when i saw Chocolate the first time cause frankly speaking till then i didn't knew it was a LIFT OFF...a dialogue by dilogue copy, GOD DAMN IT!! Why do these jerks even bother?? i actually watched the usual suspect weeks ago....as it was my classic movie day, and then i realized like just minutes into the movie i knew i have watched it before.....b i realized yup....CHOCOLATE....and guess what me evening ruined the movie all messed up, n i will advise all of you guys please don't go buying, renting or streaming this movie instead watch the Usual Suspect if you want entertainment.....i pity the Indian directors....though Indian cinema is working hard to pull it off as a major original movie makers these cannot-risk-money directors opt for the already successful plot thinking they will get a box office hit.....they just hire these famous actor (sunil shetty, arshad warsi etc).HOW DO these ACTORS EvEN SIGN UP!

Before I begin lashing out against this movie, I want to clarify that I am not fully against "Indianized" remakes of Hollywood movies - if done nicely and with some common sense, they can turn out to be decent affairs. But Chocolate shamelessly treads the path of being a horrible movie that was blatantly taken piece by piece from a class act such as the Usual Suspects. Kaante had glimpses of other great Hollywood movies, but still had a "characer". Nothing here.At the end of the movie, I was left wondering - was the director just an extra-ordinary idiot or was it just the outrageous murder of a great movie that left me pulling my own hair and cursing out loud.Anil Kapoor - who is a brilliant actor, mind you - was totally wasted in the movie. Ditto for Irfan Khan - who has given some great performances in the past. Arshad Warsi is usually a delight to watch - but not here sirs! The only person for whom this piece of trash suits is Emran Hashmi - who was his terrible self in the movie.Simply avoid this at all costs - you will be doing yourself a big favor.
