This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match: King Mabel Vs. Champ-Diesel - Diesel with his deadly 3-combination of Punches/Elbows/Kneehits made this match along with Mabel worst of entire event. 4/10

Triple H made his PPV debut, Barry Horowitz won a match, the artist later known as Big Daddy V had a title match and the Bret Hart/ Jerry Lawler and Undertaker/ Million Dollar Corporation raged on as Summerslam 1995, a bizarre PPV, took place in August 1995.Well we start things off with former ECW Champion Dean Douglas in his classroom telling us how superior he is intellectually to everyone else. From there it's time for some in ring action with 1-2-3 Kid taking on Hakushi. I'll be real honest and say I have no idea what the backstory was here, and after watching this entertaining opener, I didn't care. Hakushi won a good match.Next up we have Dok Hendrix interviewing King Mabel. I'd comment further except I couldn't understand a word either of them said.OK, now it's time for Triple H, or as he was then known, rich snob Hunter Hearst Helmsley to make his PPV debut against Bob "Sparkplug" Holly. Helmsley picked up a decisive victory in a short match which I guess was passable. This was followed by some tag team action (woohoo) as the Smoking Gunns (Bart and Billy) took on the the Blu Brothers (Jacob and Eli). This is another short nothing match, won by the Gunns. Bart and Billy were a pretty decent tag team. This was followed by a grudge match between Barry Horowitz and Skip. The story here is that Horowitz had never won a match in his long WWE career, but in the lead up to Summerslam 1995, he had captalised on a distraction to pin Skip. Skip, humiliated, sought revenge here and didn't get it. Skip did a good job of playing an arrogant jerk, Horowitz did a good job of looking like an underdog and this was probably the best match we'd seen so far all night. But don't get too happy, because now we're back in Dean Douglas' classroom with the Dean explaining to us just why Skip lost.Next is another short match with limited build as Alundra Blayze defeated Bertha Faye to retain the WWE Women's Championship. Some time around now, Blayze went to rival wrestling company WCW, taking the Women's Championship belt with her and throwing it in the bin, where WWE left it for a few years.OK, now we get to see the Undertajer extract some revenge on the Million Dollar Corporation and more specifically Kama. Undertaker had spent the early part of the year feuding with various members of the MDC, but at Wrestlemania, Kama had stolen the Undertaker's urn. Since then he'd melted the urn down and was now wearing it as a gold necklace. In a fun casket match, the Undertaker kicked Kama's butt. Not a technical masterpiece, but who cares? Next up it was time for Bret Hart to continue his rivalry with Jerry Lawler, taking on Lawler's evil dentist Isaac Yankem (who would go on to become Kane). They have a long ass match for what it is and Lawler interferes with Hart winning by DQ after Lawler pulled him by the hair and then made sure his head was caught in between the ropes. Hart was knocked out by assault and needed assistance to leave the room. This was not that bad. This brings us to the best match of the night and one of the best at any Summerslam as Razor Ramon put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Shawn Micheals in a ladder match. They were very honest in the build up here. They'd had a really good ladder match at Wrestlemania X and so were having another one here. Shawn Micheals got the win, though he seemed to have some trouble getting the belt down, falling to the floor without a couple of times before finally snatching it for the win.Dean Douglas gets put in his place finally. The main event saw Diesel defeat King Mabel in a poor match to retain the WWE Championship. So there you have it. Some good matches, some bad, some average and overall a bizarre night. Not the best Summerslam, but not the worst either.

At WrestleMania X in March 1994, Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon put on one of the most impressive displays of athleticism in WWE history with their incredible ladder match. A year and a half later at SummerSlam 1995, the two fought in another epic ladder match -- and somehow managed to outdo their WrestleMania performance! HBK won the clash at SummerSlam '95. The main event at SummerSlam 1995 pitted WWE Champion Diesel against the 1995 King of the Ring, Mabel. In the end, "Big Daddy Cool" retained his title. Also at SummerSlam 1995, Triple H defeated Hardcore Holly! Hakushi pinned 1-2-3 Kid Hunter Hearst Helmsley pinned Bob Holly The Smoking Gunns defeated Jacob & Eli Blu Barry Horowitz pinned Skip Bertha Faye defeated Alundra Blayze for the Women's Championship Undertaker defeated Kama in a Casket Match Bret Hart defeated Isaac Yankem by DQ Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels defeated Razor Ramon in a Ladder Match WWE Champion Diesel pinned MabelOverall Mark: A-

This was the best SummerSlam ever in my opinion. It had something for everyone. The main event was the only match that was below average (Diesel faced King Mabel in a WWF Title match). The rest of the matches were fantastic. The Undertaker put on a good show against Kama the Supreme Fighting Machine. It was one of the more memorable Undertaker matches. The 1-2-3 Kid faced the high flying Japanese superstar Hakushi in a match where the competitors moved faster than light. Bob Holly and Hunter Hearst Helmsley also put on a good match as did Skip and Barry Horowitz. The highlight of SummerSlam '95 was the ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon. Ramon and Michaels had already fought in a ladder match before at WrestleMania X (and several ladder matches prior to WrestleMania X)and it was a dazzling match. This match however was just amazing. These guys really put their bodies on the line to entertain us. When I watched this in 1995 I though to myself how far the WWF superstars go to entertain us.Worth buying for the ladder match alone!
