In 1997, Oscar-winning documentarian Allan Miller embarked on a film project with renowned conductor Zubin Mehta and celebrated Chinese film director Zhang Yimou as they joined forces in a production of Puccini's opera Turandot in Florence. If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
