If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

Quite a good little dark-humored college mystery film, with an awful lot of twists, that leaves you a bit mind-boggled at the end trying to make some sense out of it. Don't try to take it too seriously, just sit back and enjoy it. Excellent acting and directing from all involved. The characters are all sociopaths, but it's all so tongue-in-cheek that you end up sort of identifying with them, instead of hating them. They did a nice job re-creating the 1990s college atmosphere. Some of the references will become outdated, but 20 years after it was filmed, they still mainly hold up. The dialog is great. One nice touch was the interaction between chainsmoker Det. Amato and Dr. Ashley, who was trying to quit. It was already established that she wasn't going to reveal to the detectives any of her confidential counselling-sessions, but the animosity between herself and Det. Amato reinforced it.Another nice touch was the scene where Tim cons Jimmy out of his $10, and poor clueless Jimmy goes "That Tim, he's a really nice guy". It then cuts to a scene of Emma, an ironic expression on her face, murmuring "He is.....isn't he ?" Foreshadowing what's to come, though we don't know it yet.

The screenplay borrows sometimes from that of Clouzot's "les Diaboliques" :the dead body which should be in the sea,but which is nowhere to be found. This is one of these teenage stuff flicks where we NEVER see a so called student work, study or even open one book! And they want to get into Harvard ,no less! The film is not dull ,however, thanks to Matthew Lillard's funny face and to his excellent over-the -top playing (already excellent in "scream" ).His young co -stars are not as gifted as he is.Outside Lillard, the best characters are the chancellor and the shrink ,a pair of idiots who get fooled every time they show up.The way Tim manipulates all the people around is delightful.

The Curve, or Dead Man's Curve could very well be one of the best films of the late 90s. As an inspiring film-maker myself I'm always a sucker for finding a lot of good movies that seem to go unnoticed, and Dan Rosen certainly is an inspiration. This film focuses on a college in which two of three roommates have heard of a rumor that will allow them to pass with straight A grades if their 3rd just so happens to commit suicide. Knowing that this will never happen, a plan is made to purposely off one of the three, and set it up to appear as a suicide. The plot then thickens, the trust between the two of them slowly begins to fade away and the days begin getting creepier, full of events that could have never been suspected.Dan Rosen had the luck of getting a very well cast to bring his excellent written film to the screen, including Matthew Lillard, who gives a damn fine performance as Tim, and many other very well known actors Overall, this was a great film for first timer Dan Rosen, The movie was written to deliver entertainment and full of exciting twists of dark comedy through the whole way, and is a very fun in every way. I only wish he could have made a few more with this ones certain style. needless to say, it rocks its well deserved 9 out of 10.Also recommended films in my opinion would be Highway, SLC Punk!, Entropy, and the very similar film "Dead Man On Campus" that follows a very close plot to this movies situation, but is taken more on the comedy side.

This film was written well and had a twisting plot. Matthew Lillard was absolutely adorable as the jerk! For a film with a warmed-over premise, I think it was done very well. I would watch it a second time and would recommend.
