Gary Cooper and Sylvia Sydney play magnificent roles in this gangster/romantic film. The love between them was what kept me watching. Near the beginning she wants him to be successful and have money, but once she realizes how lucky she is that he's not involved in any gangs she wants it to stay that way. Things like that always seem to turn around. Their acting was phenomenal and she delivered all the scenes perfectly like she was really in the moment. Her facial expressions and close ups are what really made me fall in love with her character. She's very hostile towards the gangsters, "red hot." I loved that feisty personality.

This film was beautifully crafted and I was impressed by certain techniques that the director chose to use. I was most impressed by the jail-cell scene where Nan's conversation with Kid would not stop playing over and over in her head. The overwhelming overlap of voices and noise really portrayed how scared and stressed out Nan became when she discovered her boyfriend got mixed up in the wrong crowd. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and the love that Nan and Kid shared for each other. Throughout the entire movie, I found myself rooting for Kid because in the end all he wanted was to be with Nan. I believe it was a classic mob movie with problems surfacing inside the gang itself in their competition and betrayal of one another. However, the actors really became their characters and the roles were really convincing, keeping the story alive and keeping my eyes on the screen. In today's world, black and white movies have a difficult time keeping our attention yet they make up for this in the plot and this movie did a really good job making sure viewers would stay to watch.

I enjoyed this mob movie because it seemed a little different than other mob movies. In this movie the woman gets accused of murder and gets mad at the kid for not being racketeer like her step dad to make some money whos involved with the mob because he was just working in the circus but was really good with a gun. The woman gets accused of murder and gets put in prison even though she thought and was told that the mob would get her out. While she is in prison The kid comes to visit her and she sees him in this nice fancy coat he tells her he's in the mob now telling her how much he loves it and thinking she would pleased. But she is actually very unhappy about it because she knows something bad could happen to him, and the mob does try to get him. I wanted to see this movie because I saw that it had Gary Cooper in it, I have not seen any of his movies before but I have heard about it him and how great his movies were. And it was pretty good but not what I expected from a Gary Cooper film.

Overall, this film was well put together. Low angled cameras were visual in the beginning. The film was quite dark in the beginning, but the lighting became better after about 2-5 minutes. Love plays a role in this film with Gary and Sylvia. Gary is not the type of man who will settle for less. He and Slyvia who date and are in love want to get married. Gary does not have all the funds he needs. Slyvia who is the "racketeer's" daughter suggests to Gary that he should work with her father so that he can earn the funds needed to get married. Gary does not like that type of work, which includes beer, and states that's not an option. Slyvia selfishly tells Gary he will practically never earn the money to get married and basically in our terms nowadays called him, "broke". Gary, not settling for less, gets up and leaves, and Slyvia shows her true love by running to him apologizing and asking for forgiveness. I liked this film!
