Surprisingly incoherent and boring
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
I first saw this in high school and knew I wanted to become like Ron Clark. I love him so much that I've read a couple of his books. They're equally as inspiring. I didn't end up as a school teacher but I do volunteer teach some unprivileged kids so I try to develop myself with his methods. I still have a lot to learn but I'm excited to do so. I just wish I'm in his class right now.
Matthew Perry shines as Ron Clark in this wonderful film. He truly captures the character and his rapport with the kids playing his students is wonderful.Perry gives us as an audience all the elements of his personality that we fell in love with in Friends while also being able to show off his skill as a dramatic actor. He plays both the comedic and dramatic scenes equally well.Films like this are nothing new but it is the simple story behind this one combined with the charm of Perry that allows it to stand out from the others. It is a truly wonderful film that is well worth a watch.
For a true story this sure is some unrealistic material. First of all the class really isn't that bad to begin with. I mean, Ron Clark walks into a school in Harlem(!), gives them like a hundred rules on his first day, but is not once physically assaulted or shot at. Not even when he makes them wait for lunch for hours straight. I wouldn't consider myself a problem child but even I would have tried to just walk through him. The difficulties are really just limited to nobody paying attention, which really isn't all that abnormal if that's your style of teaching. We get a mediocre rehash of what we've seen so many times before, not once was Clark gaining their respect plausible. The only vaguely intelligent thing he did was the trick with the chocolate milk, which doesn't make you last all year. So yeah, perhaps it's inspirational, but he just turned mediocre, slightly displeased kids into good kids, which isn't that great. I'm thinking the actual Ron Clark suffered a lot more.
What an incredible movie!!! I happened to catch it on HBO about a month back and i am still reeling under its influence!!I so much liked the movie..that i got it TV'od and watch it almost alternate days whenever i have time!! I never knew that Matthew Perry was SO capable of acting with finesse. He's brings the character of RON CLARK alive so much...that actually u start wishing for a teacher like him to teach you, well at least i did. The kids especially the kid who played TayShawn have performed brilliantly, but of course Matt Perry takes the cake. I'll be terribly disappointed if Matthew Doest get an Oscar nomination/ award for this, its his time to shine!! My only wish is to meet Sir perry and Sir Ron CLark himself before i die....God bless Matthew and Ron, hope they have great success in their RON CLARK ACADEMY, and if i ever come to USA, I'll make sure I see their academy in Atlanta. Well what r u guys waiting for, grab a DVD and watch it, there's LOTS to learn from it!!!
