A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Based on the one-shot graphic novel of the same name by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignolia, 'Batman: Gotham by Gaslight' leans heavily into the crime genre, highlighting Batman first and foremost as the World's Greatest Detective. Whilst somewhat underplayed in the source material, here the identity of the murderous Jack the Ripper plays a central part in the story's proceedings. As the death toll rises and Gotham's finest come under increasing public pressure, the Bat takes on himself to uncover the truth of who is behind these nefarious deeds.Accompanied by a wealth of voice-acting talent, Bruce Greenwood does an excellent job of capturing the duality of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Similarly, Jennifer Carpenter turns in a great performance as a kinder and, surprisingly, more public-spirited Catwoman. Indeed, the veritable kaleidoscope of DC characters freshly and innovatively represented here begs the question as to whether there is enough new narrative territory to warrant a sequel.Hardcore fan or otherwise, there is much to be enjoyed here in this elseworld retelling of the Batman myth.

I love this movie it mixwd up 3 great stories like Batman, sherlock holmes and Jack the ripper And the killing scenes done so nicely even batman beaten up so badly 3 times in the movie that made me realize that batman really is normal human witout any super powers. Selina was such a great felme character in this movie I like her a lot xD

Finally, DC puts out something watchable. No, seriously - this is like a freaking rare Pokémon, a DC film that does no make you feel like a freaking idiot for wasting your time watching it. Honestly, I am not sure if this movie is actually as great as I am making it out to be or if DC set the bar so low that I am overrating an lukewarm movie. Whatever, I am planning to read the comic it is based on and rewatch the film again because I am a hardcore fan but also a realist and I'm predicting Warner Bros being dumb enough not to reboot their cinematic universe for a least another year. Foolish executives are going to permanently damage the DC brand unless they give us a hard reboot - which is why REAL DC fans stopping paying to watch any DC movie years ago. Keep it up and save DC. I am sick of Marvel fans laughing at our movies.

Decent story; pathetic, ultra-cheap, non-animation! It looks like they had told the basic story line to a bunch of completely talentless 5th-graders and told them to "take some hard-lead ugly-colored pencils and draw us some pictures of this story."
