This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I decided to watch this because I liked the title. Had I known that Keira Knightly was in it I might have chosen something else. I wish I had chosen something else.I would formally like to state to all other nations that not all English women talk like Keira Knightly. Not many people in the UK actually talk like that at all. It is really really annoying so I'm glad that we don't.I got a bit excited right towards the end when Steve Carell was going through Knightly's characters record collection and he flicked past Magnetic Fields 69 Love Songs. I was hoping to just hear one track from it to take my mind off this dull, rather pointless film, but alas, it didn't happen. You just get to hear loads of Scott Walker.

Okay i'd just like to say that i made an account just to write this review so not everyone has to suffer like i did. bottom line, don't watch this movie. now i can get past the face that it was COMPLETELY unrealistic due to the fact that they were still able to purchase gas and other every day items DURING THE APOCALYPSE. That i can possibly live with. But what i can't get over is the complete lack of character development and this also COULD have been overlooked if the two main characters didn't fall in love. and i'm thinking if i didn't know anything about the characters, how the hell did they know anthing about each other!? especially since they just DECIDED they were the love of each other's lives in what?? a week? less? I honestly don't know because within the hour and 40 minutes of my life that i wasted, they failed to be consistent with a timeline that would allow me to figure that out. People are writing reviews about how "deep and touching" this movie was? maybe they watched a different movie than me because i no way was i moved by this movie. maybe i moved a little closer to the bathroom because of how repulsed i was by the attempt of comedy within the movie. but not emotionally. I bursted out laughing at the end, so predictable and so stupid. i can't emphasize it enough. do not watch this movie.

I'm not sure why this movie didn't get a higher overall rating. Sure, there are a number of things in the plot that aren't realistic. So what? It never pretended to be, as far as I can tell, a movie trying to accurately portray the end of the world. The impending End is kind of a silent character hanging over the proceedings. The movie is not so much about the End. The movie is character driven, and often funny and heartbreaking at the same time. It does a pretty decent job of showing how people might react in the situation. Of course, it's speculation. No one can predict how people would really react, and hopefully we won't have to find out any time soon.Carell and Knightley are both very good in the leads. They imbue even more warmth and humanity into the movie, whose script already has quite a bit of warmth and humanity baked into it.I found the ending, in particular, to be quite lovely.People expecting hard-core sci-fi should absolutely steer clear. The sci-fi elements remain very much in the background. But for those with romantic souls (not necessarily sappily romantic), this movie is a must see.

This movie was terrible. I expected an interesting watch as the topic would suggest. Instead there was this boring man who didn't seem to care much about anything who met this irritating female character played by Knightley. She was so fake in this role, I didn't believe her anything - when she was sad, it was fake, when she meant to be nice and thoughtful, fake again, she was just playing it so badly. I didn't manage to watch this movie till the end, waste of time. Very superficial overall, not funny, not sad, not dramatic. Nothing. I've never liked Knightley much but I thought she was a good actress, however, she definitely killed this movie. She is not a universal actress or the script was so bad that the actors gave up on it. To summarize, this is very flat, boring movie.
