It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

-May Contain Spoilers- Firstly, this isn't a completely garbage movie, but it's not one that's good or even average either. it's just bad, but not very bad. First lets start with the main characters in the movie. they are Gordy and Shawn, they are two really big (and that's an understatement) WCW Wrestling fans (i bet they are sad that WCW isn't around anymore). Anyways, they are outside a quickie mart where Gordy daydreams about being a wrestler, which i won't hate on. After something disgusting that i won't spoil for good reasons, you meet Gordy's dad. Gordy's dad is a police officer, as is his mom and sister so it's a family business, and wants his son to also join up with them. Anyways, these two have tickets to see Monday Nitro where they are super excited to see their favorite wrestler, Oliver Platt! Oliver Platt (he so doesn't look like a wrestler) plays a wrestler called Jimmy King and he's basically a spoiled wrestler who shows up late and thinks he's God's gift to wrestling. honestly, i'm surprised they had this guy as a face, his moves don't look that good and his finisher isn't really that exciting, plus he's unbeaten for however long and his gimmick is royalty which usually is for a heel to play. his boss, Titus Sinclair, can't stand his "me first" ways, so he decides to do the Vince Montreal move and tells Goldberg to tell King that he's winning, but in the end screws him!! So basically this sends the two fans on a downward spiral emotionally and they decide to find him and help him get his title back. i won't spoil anymore of this movie, but if you enjoy watching oddballs going nuts and seeing lots of kicks to the groins, then this is your movie. i did enjoy how they made wrestling look fake, but only to shoot when told. i like the triple cage scene and i liked the wrestling scenes they did, but other than that, i fast forward a lot of the movie.

Back in 2000 when I went to Hollywood Video and saw this movie on VHS the cover made me pick it up and read the back of it. Curious about it I rented it.Now you have to be a fan of Wrestling to fully understand it and at the time I found it to be a funny movie and it still is funny to me but looking back had I known the history that I learn many years later I would have felt different but again during the biggest high in Wrestling during the WWF vs WCW days I was for the World Wrestling Federation. This film centers around WCW World Championship Wrestling as two die hard Wrestling fans Gordie played by David Arquette and Sean played by Scott Caan who attend WCW Nitro to watch their hero Jimmy King played by Oliver Platt as he defends the WCW World Championship against Diamond Dallas Page however Titus Sinclair Played by Joe Pantoliano has other plans. After watching their hero being defeated they begin a quest to help Jimmy King regain what he had lost. Along the way Gordie meets Nitro Gril Sasha played by Rose McGowan Story wise it was enough to keep your interest in this comedy. The film also features WCW Wrestlers in cameo and play parts during the film such as Goldberg, Sting, Booker T, Billy Kidman, Curt Hennig, Gorgeous George, Macho Man Randy Savage, Juventud Guerrero, Bam Bam Bigelow, Disco Inferno, Konnan, Sid Vicious. The film also features the Nitro Girls: Chae, Fyre, Spice, Storm, TygressIt just takes a wrestling fan to understand the film. The film does features some funny bits that will make you replay the line again to get another kick out of it.And the in the film's climax the Triple Steel Cage wrestling match is really good and it has you on the edge the whole time like a real wrestling match and very exciting. The music during the match helps tell the story so well done and it is reason enough to watch this movie. Sure it's not a film for everyone but wrestling fans can sit back and enjoy it. It is a funny, entertaining filmI give Ready to Rumble an 8 out of 10

I love wrestling. I however, did not look forward to this. The reason is that this was during the Vince Russo era. It also was starring David Arquette. The family wanted to go and I tagged along against my will.Spoilers*** The movie stars Oliver Platt as a wrestler. Yeah, that's believable. David Arquette as the obsessed fan, and a bunch of WCW wrestlers. The story is a corrupt WCW promoter wants Platt's character named Jimmy KING, (a blatant ripoff of Jerry "The King" Lawler) removed from WCW for some reason. Our lead idiot Arquette is in the audience sees all of WCW(The WCW heels anyway) mug the king into retirement. Arquette throws the most ANNOYING fit ever!!!!! Almost caused my ears to bleed. Arquette identifies the King as the People's Champion. (Another ripoff as the Rock has been known as the People's Champion for a few years now). The movie is 100% predictable. Some old geezer defies the corrupt promoter and the guy looks like he is a hundred years old and fights off Perry Saturn. Inane. Eventually, The WCW faces come to save the day. Everybody in this movie is an idiot, the script was terrible, the acting was hideous, I was becoming embarrassed as a wrestling fan. The ending was SO stupid that I felt my brain cells dying. The Last Word: This IS one of the worst movies I have seen. As a wrestling fan, this movie made me angry. This was an insult to me and to anyone who is a wrestling fan. It was no surprise that WCW was purchased by WWE a year later. After this cinematic disaster, WCW needed to go away. Good riddance.

Ready to Rumble is a breakthrough in dumbass comedys. It's not too bad, but seriously, it was like the last movie David Arquette was ever in that I know of (Eight Legged Freaks doesn't count). The sole person that saved this movie from the $5.99 bin at Wal-Mart was Oliver Platt. It truly shows he can be serious and stupid at the same time. Okay, on to the plot (oh right, there wasn't one). Alright, I like this movie,I own this movie, so I should stop being a jerk. The story is about Jimmy King, a professional wrestler for World Championship Wrestling (WCW) whose loses a match and is fired. This is where Arquette and Scott Cann come in. They're both huge King fans and are ticked off that he got screwed by the president of WCW, Donald St.Claire (Joe Pantoliano). So they find the King, fix him up with some connections, have him train, and win a cage match at a major pay-per-view. Sounds pretty simple, right? Other than some minor story flaws, and an ass shot of Scott Cann half-way through, it was okay. It's a good thing WCW doesn't exist anymore, because more than likely, there would've been a sequel (which is not good at all). Two out of five stars.
