Good concept, poorly executed.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

A suicidal artist goes into the desert, where he finds his doppelgänger, a homicidal drifter. The worst thing about Mojave is that it makes zero sense i mean there are scenes where Garrett Hedlund is shouting and even a scene where he shoots the sheriff by an accident or crashed his car in the desert and let's talk about Oscar Isaac's performance in this film he looks like a bad rapper gone wrong that came out of Mad Max: Fury Road he was annoying and weird and if you thought that his performance in X-Men: Apocalypse was worse than this then there's something pretty wrong here. Anyways overall this movie was weird, boring and pretty much dull and badly made. (0/10)

William Monahan is the man who wrote the screenplay for the Oscar nominated 'The Departed' back in 2006. The film was more of an extended version of the original 'Infernal affairs' He also wrote 'Body of lies 2008' which starred Leonardo Di Caprio. It appears this time round Mr Monahan decided to not put much effort in his script and delivered a very half baked product. The movie happens to also be directed and produced by him too. In spite of being well aware of it's bad reviews and low rating I decided to give it a chance , hoping in vain it would be worth the time. Unfortunately to my surprise this turned out to be one of the worst movies I had ever seen. It's no surprise why it had to be screened at film festivals before it got it's theatrical release.Towards the second I felt like I was watching a homage to Hitchcock's 'Strangers on a train'. But to even compare would be an insult. The only redeeming element of the movie was Oscar Isaac. Whenever he appears your attention will be grabbed again. Both characters were lacking any development so I was unable to emotional connect with either. The pace of the movie is very slow and the conversations are boring. Even Mark Wahlberg's cameo is not enough to save this bore fest. And the climax was just played out pathetically. I don't think Mr Monahan cares whether the film was a success or not. I guess he can be happy from the basic foot fall in to the theatre. Save your precious time and see something else.

Mojave (2016) is simply just a bland and boring movie. I wouldn't necessarily call it a snoozefest, but I definitely had a hard time paying attention. Everything here feels perfectly mediocre, nothing is overwhelmingly good, but nothing is overwhelmingly bad. The directing is pretty flat and lifeless. I wouldn't say that anything caught my eye or even peaked my interest. The writing is pretty decent, and there are some very good lines of dialogue. However, a lot of that dialogue is out of place. A character would say a very witty line, but it would really have no context for that particular scene. The acting is also decent, with Oscar Isaac being the highlight. Still, it was still pretty funny to hear him call literally every single living thing he meets "brother". With all that being said, 'Mojave' is extremely forgettable. I would personally not suggest it, on the basis that most who watch it will forget it within a week. A24 is honestly one of the best and most consistently good independent film companies working right now, so this was extremely disappointing coming from them.

Review: I really had high hopes for this movie but it seemed to come and go really quickly and the ending was really disappointing. I was expecting a massive showdown between Thomas (Garrett Hedlund) and Jack (Oscar Isaac), who cross paths in the Mojave desert and become enemies after Jack, a penniless drifter, finds out about Thomas's wealth. Jack then follows Thomas to torment him, after an unfortunate incident that happened in the desert, which also puts Thomas's close friends and loved one in danger. Personally, i thought that the whole project lacked depth and it just seems like Thomas was in a world of his own most of the time. Oscar and Wahlberg were the best thing in the movie because they put some effort into there characters but apart from that, the storyline was weak and it would have made more sense if Thomas would have just come clean about the whole mistake that happened in the desert. Wahlberg (Norman) did make me laugh but he was only in a couple of scenes, which was a shame. Basically, this movie was a big let down and it was a waste of a good cast. Disappointing!Round-Up: Garrett Hedlund, 31, also worked alongside Mark Wahlberg in Four Brothers, and he also starred in Inside Llewyn Davis with Oscar Isaac, so there was a sense of chemistry between the characters but it was the script that let it down. He first came on the scene in 2004 in Troy and he's taken the lead in big movies like Tron: Legacy, Eragon and Pan but it will take some time before he becomes a household name. Anyway, this movie was written and directed by William Monahan, 55, who also brought you London Boulevard starring Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley and Ray Winstone. The whole project seemed a bit rushed and not thought through properly, in my opinion but on the plus side, the Mojave backdrop did look authentic but that's about it.I recommend this movie to people who are into their thrillers starring Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Louise Bourgoin, Walton Goggins, Mark Wahlberg and Tim Soergel. 3/10
