On a hot summer afternoon in the sleepy town of Blackwater Louisiana, a meteor streaks across the sky and crashes through the roof of the local Natural History Museum. The meteor is actually a spaceship containing an alien life form which animates the museum's partially frozen Woolly Mammoth and begins a rampage. Local authorities and Government Investigators join forces with Frank Abernathy, the Museum Curator, and his father Simon, a B-Movie enthusiast, to bring down the giant mammoth in this alien-invasion flick!

Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

I don't have any children myself, but I do know when I go to parties or visit families who have children usually there is a movie being played on TV that is focused towards kids…. This is what this movie reminded me of.This movie wasn't bad, but if you go into this movie thinking it's going to be amazing you will be disappointed. The script was sort of silly, like I mentioned above it was very "childlike" with its jokes and stuff. The graphics were pretty bad and I didn't even realize half of the storyline until I read the actual description on this site. Aside from all of that it was such a cute and endearing movie I have to admit I really enjoyed it.I will call this movie cute and silly if you don't take it too seriously you will probably enjoy it. It did remind me somewhat of Men in Black with its "Alien Detectives" with a little bit of the corniness of the movies from the 50's and 60's.ZombieSteak.com - Discover a new world of horror films, designed just for you.

Goes for a satire of oldy sci-fi stuff from the drive-in era. Some of the cliché sight gags work, enough to sit through it.The story itself is pretty lame and poorly developed, an idea ripped from Night at the Museum. Some alien toy that looks like an xbox360 is used to animate a Wolly Mammoth from some bones on display at the local museum. From there it's just a series of "Do you recognize what movie this joke refers to?" type events. Everything from the "couple making out gets attacked" bit to the "Men in Black" jazz parades by in no particular order. Lines are corny (on purpose), and characters are all pretty dumb(also on purpose). The intentional hokeyness is funny in places, with the over-acting being the only real minus. An OK watch if you have nothing else to do.

Another made for the Sci-fi channel feature, which sees an alien-carrying meteor crash in a museum where the alien life form transports itself into a century's old frozen mammoth and virtually goes on the rampage in the quiet little town. It's up to Dr. Frank Abernathy, his daughter, father and two federal agents to find a way to stop it, before their time is up and the town would be no longer.A total kooky throwback to the b-grade sci-fi 50's alien invasion / monsters on the rampage with the screenplay keeping it tongue-in-cheek, even with somewhat a lousy script. Pretty much it has fun at its own expense with a vibrant ray of performances. Vincent Ventresca nicely laps it up as the nervous, work-minded Dr. Frank Abernathy and Summer Glau brings brashness to her part as his daughter. Tom Skerritt looks like his having a good time and Leila Arcieri brings a calm intensity to her role.Director Tim Cox does a moderate job blending the large dose of comical elements with sub-standard CGI effects (the gigantic mammoth) and cartoonish action. Suspense isn't generated, but the frenetic pace and chaos occurring remains amusingly fun and campy. An enjoyable throwaway.

I admit that SCI FI has set the bar mighty low when it comes to its original movies. So, I tuned in to Mammoth expecting more of the same. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoyed this movie.Vincent Ventresca as Dr. Frank Abernathy is the main reason the movie works. He is sort of a cross between Bruce Campbell and the Absent Minded Professor, and brings a much needed dose of comedy to the story. The Mammoth itself is an unimpressive, not scary, CGI mess. But Tim Cox wisely minimizes its screen time and leaves it to the actors to carry the movie, and they do a fine job.The movie moves at a brisk enough pace that you are distracted from the lack of a strong story line. But, again, this movie is about fun, not scares. I recommend it.
