Butterfly on a Wheel (2007)

Just what I expected

Good concept, poorly executed.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

one the few works of William Morrissey as both writer and producer, indeed director were under impacts of his believes and opinions, the story line go smooth up and then flush at the end, the story of crime that finished by betrayed story of a couple. Actually the main kidnapping story was a side fake story that deceive you till end, means all long the film 80%, you see non sense matter , no output , no outcomes, ... of a fake kidnapping, and 5 minute at the end you will face to main subject, I think one of the worst method way of writing a novel or screen play. the acts were good especially Pierce Brosnan as always, the camera and shots were normal and flying shots not so bad.

Although the acting was great, Pierce is always a joy to see act, for me, this thriller was a bit over the top, it has to do with taking a couple on a harrowing torturous thrill ride, in a scheme cooked up by their cheated on spouses... everything involved in the scheme, in reality would make it highly illegal... and not only that, if a person is that upset with their spouse for cheating... why the elaborate games...just leave. I would have actually enjoyed the film more if it went another five minutes longer with the spouse saying " OK..I had an affair, but what you did was vicious, you got your pound of flesh and revenge, and managed to kill what remaining feeling I have left for you, now get out." So, although the film was a bit of a thriller, the ending left a sour taste in my mouth.

This movie completely disgusted me. The ending was completely unexpected and what made this movie the worst I have ever seen. I do believe that Gerard Butler despised doing this movie and only did it to fulfill a contract he signed and didn't know the ending was appalling. I know that many of you will watch it just to see what has me so overwrought but I warn you will regret it. I love Gerard Butler, Maria Belo and Pierce Brosnan and they put all their effort into it except Brosnan was seriously lacking and overdid his accent. I wish I had never watched it. I need to watch 300 just to get the bad taste out when I think of Gerard Butler and some James Bond for Pierce.

Butterfly on a Wheel is a very pleasant change from most American thrillers where so much reliance is placed on 'way over-the-top action sequences' that never happen in real life. Everything is at the same time both gripping and low-key and that isn't easy. So well done director Mike Barker (I'll be watching for more of your work) and to what is, basically, a cast of three.It was interesting to see Pierce Brosnan as the 'bad guy' rather than the hero and, when you watch the film, I'm sure you'll agree, he was quite loathsome with his cool, calculating manner.I won't include spoilers here but leave you to see if you can work out the reason for everything. No doubt some of you (smart-asses!!) will and get all blasé about that but I didn't. I thought I did but, in the end, I was wrong - and, when you think about it, that's what makes a thriller great isn't it?Well worth a second watch.
