This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

The Collection (2012), sequel to 2009's The Collector, is actually better than the first movie. I liked it better because the characters were better, had more depth, and I cared more about what happened to them. The survivor that got captured at the end of the first movie stars in this one as well. I really like his character and the actor plays him well. Being completely honest, the acting in this movie isn't top notch all the time, but it wasn't like cheap horror movie level. I really liked the main actress and her character. Her character is one you'll definitely want to root for and the actress that plays her is very talented. The plot is interesting, it's pretty different from the plot of the original. The plot this time around is more of a hunt him down type of thing. This one takes it to a new level, more people are involved and it's more intense if you ask me. I liked that the filmmakers took things to a new level with the intensity. You definitely will not be bored at any point during this movie. The writing is alright, I mean no one should expect perfect writing in a movie like this, the dialogue suffices. I do suggest both this movie and the first. If you wanna have a horror movie night that'll entertain and keep you on the edge of your seat, then I'd suggest these movies. 8/10 for The Collection.

Very similar to Saw, works as a standalone film we did not know it was a sequel until Arkin got out of the box. A simple plot line but not very gory, not very scary, not a lot of characterisation. However, it kept moving along and did what all such films do: kept things open for another go round. Good a for a quick blast of no thinking viewing.

When Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick) is abducted by the sadistic serial killer known as 'The Collector' (Randall Archer), her wealthy father (Christopher McDonald) hires a team of mercenaries to locate the psycho's hideout, an abandoned hotel, to try and rescue the girl. Helping the team in their task is the only known survivor of the mask-wearing murderer, professional burglar Arkin (Josh Stewart). The Collection, the sequel to gory 2009 horror The Collector, doesn't make a whole lot of sense, with a million and one plot-holes and characters who make the dumbest of decisions—but I don't care, 'cos it delivered precisely what I wanted from a film by the writer of the Feast sequels, the latter entries in the Saw series and Piranha 3DD: namely, tons of gore! It's not long into the film that the nastiness begins, with an outrageously splattery sequence in a nightclub that sees an entire room of ravers reduced to a mass of messy body parts by several ingenious mechanical contraptions (like the Saw films, the killer is a dab hand at building the most complex of booby-traps and presumably has an endless supply of cash to fund his sick hobby). From this moment on, The Collection is a gore-hound's dream, delivering one sickening scene after another, the camera lingering on every disgusting detail. The effects, both practical and CGI, are satisfyingly gut-churning, with one revolting moment involving a broken arm that I found very uncomfortable to watch, and it's not often that I can say that.

A psychopathic killer is on the loose and our story begins; he's the kind of person that slaughters people en mass (massacre) and collects one person from the genocide and adds them to his 'collection'. The beginning of the movie doesn't elude to much that will happen – it gives some brief foreshadowing and then our heroines are off for a night on the town. All too good to be true right? The movie quickly escalates into typical 'Saw' like fashion, but we never actually see the killer – it goes straight back to supernatural horror-esque killers that never speak. We see him continually, lots of body language – and his intent is clear – he is quick to the point and gets his work done. This is a bit hard to believe in a movie sense – but it is a movie – they can get by with this kind of thing. The actual mansion that he lives in – an abandoned hotel – is something out of horror movies. I won't spoil it, but it is literally like something out of Alien or Aliens. The museum going on here, and literally looking at what this madman does for a hobby, should be enough to draw anyone bored with horror movies – back into the genre and wanting more content like this movie delivers. The movie does go above and beyond with thriller and suspense style content also. The music was spot on, and often it only helped to emboss the movie against other horror movies and slashers of this genre.I liked it, I think you will too. I think enough movies like this and the slasher genre could come back into the limelight.Originally posted to Orion Age (http://www.orionphysics.com/? p=5113).
