It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.

I love this movie. It reminds me so much of the old travel movies that I am sure the director, like me, grew up watching. It's a great movie and a guilty pleasure of mine to watch. So many movies out there deal with sex and profanity that when a movie like this comes along it is very refreshing. The music is great as are the location settings. The actors all do wonderful jobs. I've read the complaints and I think this movies stands well on it's own despite it's simplicity.

If you think you will be seeing a remake of the Marlene Dietrich/Vittorio DeSica film from the Fifties then you'd better turn the dial. This Monte Carlo stars Selena Gomez in two roles, one as a kid from Texas who with her sister and stepsister Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy get a Parisian vacation for graduation. But they miss their tour bus and then Selena is mistaken for a British version of Paris Hilton. The British Selena is supposed to be in Monte Carlo to auction off a necklace of her's to help build schools in Romania. So off they go as professional rich celebrity and accompanying Bffs. Naturally they all find romance Gomez with rich Pierre Boulanger, Meester with Australian tourist Luke Bracey, and Cassidy has her boyfriend from Texas Cory Monteith chasing her down to proclaim his true intentions. But the real British celebrity arrives and almost spoils everybody's plans. I say almost because you know that in a Disney Network film there has to be a happy ending.Nothing new here, it was done with much bigger stars back in the Fifties as Three Coins In The Fountain set in Rome. American girls finding continental love is as old a theme as it gets in films. But these are beautiful boys and girls and that never gets tiring.

As a starting point, Princess Protection and Another Cinderella Story made me hope for a lot from Selena Gomez features. Waverley told me not to always expect that.Compare Ramona And Beezus (2010) with this Monte Carlo (2011) First viewing, both felt watchable but not all that special. From the second viewing Ramona And Beezus took off, for me. I now consider it as impressive wow level, even better than what I hoped for. I am surprised that I could not find a Blu-ray of this.Monte Carlo, why did this still feel as not all that great? It starts in a way that says I should expect a lot, the opening set to Blow Away, by A Fine Frenzy, a Selena sound-alike of pure positive magnetic appeal. Except that soon I was finding the story to be watchable but not so magnetic, other than when soundtrack stuff such as Tweedle Dee, by Line Renaud, is happening. Then, when I was going slowly through the feature to try to identify which soundtrack song was where, the whole thing seemed to have power at the level of Ramona. I can now really like this story, even at full speed.Looking at the recent IMDb reviews, some others do not appear to have noticed a problem, while others noticed the flatness and understood that in different ways. First I read that as showing how difficult the post production stage is to get right. This feature has a fairly low IMDb rating, but it is capable of being extremely enjoyable.

This may be a suitable film for kids, but the story is lack luster. The movie is too long and should have had more going on. Basically, a recent graduate, Grace, and her friend, Emma, along with her step sister Meg, go on a trip to Paris. They get hooked up with a bad tour, then a case of mistaken identity. Grace is thought to be a popular heiress. So she takes her place, goes to Monte Carlo, and gets to live the dream of a fancy suite, parties, laying on the beach. Of course, she's nicer than the real heiress, and all 3 girls meet guys they like, and of course, her identity is revealed. But no one gets in trouble because they are "nice". And it has a Disney ending.FINAL VERDICT: There's no mystery as to what will happen. The best part was the visuals of Paris and Monte Carlo, which are beautiful cities. Young teens will probably like it.
