All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

O. K. guys. I have watched all the movies from this director. I really liked The Thin Red Line, you know, during the war a Captain and a Sargeant really care about the men of their company, while the batallion colonel just care about promotions and medals. That said, I miss the point of all the other Malick's movies. ¿What is it, lack of communication amog human beings, or between husband and wife?. This movie, to me, it was the same movie that I have ever seen from Malick, whith the exception of the Thin Red Line. This guy should reinvent himself. I didn't get the point of Bardem's character. The movie should have been shorter...

I appreciate the approach letting the film tell the story and allow us to get inside what they are experiencing. The down side is not really being able to read the subtitles because it's done so subtly, it's difficult to stay connected because you can barely read them. It's a film meant to be seen in a theater. It needs to surround you.

I am a huge Terrence Malick fan and have loved everything he has done, up until this. This is not a good film. It's drawn out, has a very uninteresting script, and just fails to entertain, stimulate, or do anything really. It's a two hour wide angle shot of Ben Affleck being in a shitty relationship. Hmm...That being said, the camera work is pretty great, as is the case with most of Malick's work, but that's pretty much it. There is almost no story to speak of, to even remember as I write this review. The French woman could have gone back home at any time and spared everyone the pain of their crappy relationship. Instead, she decides to draw out what everyone knows is a doomed scenario.Malick should honestly have retired with the Tree of Life. It was excellent, and utilized the dreamy, wide-angle drawn out sequences very well, unlike here, where they are relied on to make up for a lack of substance.I don't really recommend this film to anyone. If you are a Malick fan, it will severely diminish your appreciation for him, as it is as pretentious as it is boring.

You should definitely know what you're getting yourself into. If you haven't seen a Terrence Malick film before it's probably a bad idea. I saw Tree Of Life and I loved it very much, I also saw Days Of Heaven and I enjoyed that, too. But even The Tree Of Life seems like a regular and cohesive movie compared to this one. You should watch TOL before you give To The Wonder a try. To The Wonder's cinematography is stunningly beautiful, very much like that of The Tree Of Life, but here it's more focused on the actual "story" and the characters, no stars or dinosaurs. I'm not a big fan of Ben Affleck but I loved Olga Kurylenko in every movie I saw so far with her. And her beauty and sweetness definitely made me fall for her completely. Since both women are very attractive and I'm into women, this made empathizing with Ben Affleck's character much easier. But there's a lot I didn't understand, why they did what they did, why feelings changed or didn't and just in general, there really isn't much story. And that's my biggest criticism, with a bit more story to cling to, it could have been a really good movie. Anyways, this film is like a poem and if that appeals to you, sit back and enjoy the beautiful imagery and the maybe even more beautiful soundtrack.
