All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

I am completely shocked by the many negative reviews. How is that possible? This movie is one of the funniest movies ever, and I am not just talking about German movies or just parodies, it is hilarious and (since it is respectfully mocking Star Wars and Star Trek) funnier/more entertaining than any of the Star Wars/Trek films altogether (and in the case of Star Wars - less violent). Yes, Bullyparade-the show has a strong fanbase (and is great), yes, Der Schuh des Manitu is probably an even funnier/better movie (however with more dead animals!), but the actors are playing so exuberantly, it is a pure delight to watch them have fun. Maybe some people are not happy with the gay theme or some diehard Star Wars/Star Trek fans are offended or expected more serious space action, but I think it is a perfect mixture of a decent story, some great (and funny!) action scenes and -of course- a lot of hilarious fun and puns. However, I admit the movie grew on me, I like it even better now than when it came out, maybe this is why the rating is so low, which I cannot understand. Everybody who is a little bit open and wants to have a great laugh/time, check out all of Bully's stuff - he is a genius (Loriot and Bully - just two great examples of German humour, and there are people who say there is none - there absolutely is, a lot).

I've seen Der Schuh Des Manitu (great funny movie if you know all the "Winnetou"-movies) but haven't seen Periode 1. I'd like to see it. And i'd like to buy both movies if they would be in English language or at least with English subtitles. I know there are some trailers in English from Der Schuh Des Manitu. So where is the whole English version? Please let me know if someone know more about. Write an e-mail to: [email protected] I hope there will be another funny movie from this guy's. Maybe some funny version about all the James Bond, Starsky and Hutch, Petrocelly, Cojak and ... Or about ll the action ones: Rambo, Mad Max... Or what ever... we will wait and see to get surprised. Regards, Fred

I am German and I understand the mostly excellent jokes of that movie. I know that the Americans generally have a different sense of humor, so most Americans won't like it. There are very many jokes in there, who are very often based on some German words. I don't know in what language the user before had seen it, but i think it is more funny in German! It is not only about gay jokes, but for some Jokes you have to have seen "Der Schuh des Manitou" the other movie of Micheal "Bully" Herbig, "The Matrix", "Star Trek" and of course "Star Wars". I liked the Movie very much, because I have seen all the other movies you should have seen before. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I don't know whether the movie "Traumschiff Surprise" was translated in English. Because it's hard to understand all the gags, if you can't speak German well (and it's nearly impossible to translate all jokes, because many jokes who are funny in Germany, doesn't make sens in the US any more). Even the title is a funny pun: TRAUMSCHIFF Leave the T and it is RAUMSCHIFF (German word for space shuttle). Leave THe word SCHIFF and it is TRAUM (German word for dream). Or the gags with these US generals at the beginning: one of the name plates says "Reisfeld". A joke with the names: Donald RumsFELD and Condoleezza RICE (because Reis is the German word for rice). OK, that's very difficult to explain if you don't understand the German language, like I said (of course you've got to know the US politics in this case, too :). In my opinion, the film was funny; but not as funny as Michael Herbig's 1st film:Der Schuh Des Manitu (Manitou's Shoe). Of course they act as a bit gay guys, but I think we live in the 21th century and in this case, some people are really behind the times. Laugh above it, it's just a movie.
