When Ethan arrives at the airport just in time to declare his undying love for his girlfriend, love appears to have conquered all. The scene, however, is really the ending of Ethan's novel, which his agent calls "unrealistic." Ethan soon meets a waitress, Jesse, and falls in love with her despite her growing devotion to Troy, a charming businessman. But the line between reality and fiction becomes increasingly blurred.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

While I like the premise (which wasn't revealed until the end) of a fictional love story paralleling the "real" love story happening, in the end, the "story romance" if you pull it apart from the writer's story and take it on its own merits it's dull and not so inspiring that the author finally gets published, it doesn't work. The fake love story is boring -- girl meets handsome guy, who is a rich ad exec, and she inspires him for a campaign with some random sentence and she decides to follow him to his new position that she inspired....it's total drivel. Like who cares? The big reveal at the end of the thing she can't bring herself to tell the guy is that she can't have children and that's why she doesn't want to burden him by marrying him. I guessed that plot point in the first 15 minutes and it's just dumb -- adopting, surrogates, etc. being available. Anyway, I think they missed the plane in the end -- if you do watch it this will sort of make sense.

Sup, people! I watched the movie while waiting to my medical appointment. Dare I say: these movie sucks like my cancer. Actually, if I had to choose between this movie and the latter, the dilemma would be good. The movie is, essentially, about a really great whore who tries to decide which of the two goofies she is going to settle down for good (she is a "poor waitress"). Her dilemma is solved through empirical experience (she secretly hook up with both of them). The first thing that naturally came to my mind was: what if it was the opposite? (a dude choosing between 2 chicks). I went through 3/4 of this film. "Luckily", I was called to my consult. I told my doctor about what i had just seen and he became worried that this movie might have worsen my disease. PS - also, this movie may have caused temporary dick detachment.

I don't think I really have any spoilers, but I do reveal something that doesn't show up for almost half the movie, so I marked this as spoilers. To me, this reveal is actually part of the setup for the story-line.This movie appears to use two of the standard romcom devices. 1) ***SPOILER*** The hanging secret; 2) girl courted by two guys. But it is definitely not as simple as that. In fact, although I figured out the hanging secret pretty early (it's pretty obvious), I definitely did not see the twist at the end. I thought this was up there with some of the best movie twists, especially for a romcom. Actually I thought the twist was a little unfair in that I don't think there were any clues to foreshadow it, but it was definitely brilliant. The acting is good. You can definitely see Jesse falling in love. The brother is funny but also provides good support for Jesse. The story is good clean fun.

I absolutely loved this movie. Daryn Tufts writes an excellent script that is different than the majority of the romantic comedies these days. I am always on the lookout for romantic comedies that aren't cookie-cutter predictable. Yes, you can almost always tell the two main leads are going to end up together, but this movie takes such an unexpected path, it's quite refreshing. Don't be dissuaded by the low score here on IMDb. The majority of the user reviews for this movie are very positive. I am quite surprised that this wasn't picked up by a major distributor like Napoleon Dynamite was by Fox Searchlight. It deserved to be. Finally, it was refreshing to see a cute and clever romantic comedy without the vulgar language and sexual situations. It hearkens back to Sleepless in Seattle in that manner. Give 'My Girlfriend's Boyfriend' a chance and let it touch your heart.
