Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
In a Florida beach resort town, Claire (Emma Roberts) and Hailey (Joanna 'JoJo' Levesque) are best of friends. And after this summer season, one will move to Australia with her parents. After a big storm, they find mermaid Aquamarine (Sara Paxton) in the hotel pool. She promises them a wish if they help her prove to Neptune love exists. So the girls set out to set up Aquamarine with the local lifeguard. This is a sweet film. There is some fun in Sara Paxton as a mermaid. But it's the two girls who sell this movie. They have good chemistry together. It's a simple movie, and not much more.
Aquamarine is a 2006 fantasy flick about two teenage girls who find a mermaid in their swimming pool named you guessed it Aquamarine. She is on the lookout for love and asks the two girls to help her find a man who must love her back. She only has 3 days though so the two girls decide to hook her up with a lifeguard that they fancy. Some parts to this movie can be a bit unrealistic but having said that I liked the movie as I grew up watching The Little Mermaid and I also saw Splash which had Tom Hanks in it alongside Daryl Hannah. I always loved mermaid movies as they are nice to watch but Aquamarine was a bit weird in a way but I recommend it to those who love kids flicks and mermaids.
I saw this movie at the cinema's with some friends. I thought it was going to be really corny and boring, but it actually shocked me how good it was. It was one of the best movies I had seen in a long time because it had great actors and just the whole thing was great. Really anyone could see this movie and like it, and any age. All the actors worked so well together, and there was not a moment where I could say they could have gone back and done it better. I thought the whole storyline and plot was fantastic and parts of the movie made you use your imagination. It had fairytale themes (mermaid) which younger and older kids really enjoy, especially girls. The film looks at the friendships that people have, relationships with boys, and on teenage girls' worries with body image. The message the film is trying to show is that love can be found in many ways and can be found when you don't expect it. The friendship between the girls got closer and closer throughout the movie and it made Hailey decide that her mum deserved to move to Australia, and that friends will always be forever.
I had seen this movie a long time ago after it was released to DVD, and I had thought that it would have been one of those cheesy type of movies about kids getting into mischief at a beach resort. The actors and actresses in this movie certainly made it worth watching, and that I had adored both JoJo (Hailey) and Emma Roberts (Claire), and that it gives magic when they befriend a mermaid that is set to marry some merman if she doesn't find that one thing out there. I personally liked Emma Roberts a lot, she's partially the reason why I rented and then bought this DVD, but JoJo and Sara Paxton were just as amazing too. But that Raymond guy (Jake McDorman) was pretty good looking as well, which made the movie even more worth watching over and over again. This movie had certain at-the-moment magical features, and it was done very well, and yeah there's the occasional drama in it, but it's still worth a look at it.
