Pretty Good
A Surprisingly Unforgettable Movie!
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
How bad could a movie be, really? Watch this movie to find out!The almost comedic element towards the end of the movie suggests its producers know how bad it is. It's almost inconceivable that Unbelievable rubbish. Irrecoverable trash. Gives B-grade movies a bad name... Christian Slater and Cuba Gooding Jr must be really resenting this little number on their cv's. I've binned the DVD. It's that bad - not even worth passing on at any price. It's not worth 10 lines of review text - it's a laboratory case of failed direction and production. The horror, the horror...
Now I know what you guys want. You want reviews that bash the living turd out of this movie. But I'm afraid I can't do that for you. You think you know what you're going to get with this movie. Judging by Slater's face in the cover art you immediately think "Oh god, another piece of crap." But oh no. This movie blew me away, the sheer raw emotion portrayed by Slater is moving. You really get a feel for how stunned and in awe when he was re united with his wife after 2 years. "You were 'sposed to be dead" 10/10. I gave this a 9 cause I want the honour of my 10 to only go to a class film like Legion. S - Stupendous. L - Lingering in my mind. A - All out action. T - Tantalisingly great. E - Electrifying R - Raw emotion.
Dear friends and lovers of cinema, when I completed watching this movie my only consolation was to look forward on its comments on IMDb. I guess I wasn't able to leave the cinema right after 15 minutes because I was somehow compelled to stay and be amazed by this constantly unfolding cinematic accident... I rushed home only to share my bad experience with other victims and thus finding some relief. Thank God IMDb exists! Thank you for your apt comments. To those few commentators who did not cry out in pain about it, I can only say: If you still hope to financially gain from the sales of this 'movie': nice try. If not: every further comment is futile. To end positively: The only good job amidst 'Lies & Illusions' was done in marketing this movie, i.e. the text on the cinema program and DVD cover. They've obviously managed to lure some unfortunate folks into spending money on this movie. - Has anybody ever read a comment of Slater or Gooding jr on this film?
if there was a "zero star tragic vote" that would definitely be my choice. tragic directing: the actors' reactions are so fake, e.g. in some cases they almost get killed and on the next scene they are already over it arguing about other stuff. Fight scenes are completely stupid, why jump on a bed to kill someone when you are already aiming him with a gun?? just shoot!tragic sound editing: annoyingly repeatable music theme in most scenes, and really wasn't that special workalmost tragic plot: all cliché included! bad guys, angry villain in a suite, metallic case with diamonds, car chase through a parade.. oh please! if the directing was better I could possibly forgive that. the director should be prohibited to roll another film!
