Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Minor spoilers may follow, This movie had few high points to offset what was overall a somewhat lackluster outing for a zombie flick. The story follows Rob Freeman's character (Lt. Brian Murphy), who after surviving a plane crash off the coast of Africa, must make his way across the African landscape, in an attempt to find a way out. On his journey he meets up with Prince David Oseia's character (Sgt. Daniel Dembele) who is on a mission of his own; to find his son.The movie's premise, although very promising, fails to deliver. The movie does a good job setting up the atmosphere of the situation, but pacing issues, as well as a few dead zones tend to cause it to drag on a bit.The 2 lead stars of the movie Rob Freeman and Prince David Oseia are likable enough characters, each with their own quest ahead of them. However, sub-par acting from both cause a few cringe inducing moments that make it hard to really buy into their characters plight. The true stars of the movie are the Zombies. They have done a truly wonderful job retaining the Romero"esque" features of the zombies. The makeup and movement of the zombies are very traditional and one of the few highlights of the movie. The setting, although beautiful, does not really add to the overall ambiance. Finally, the story, although very traditional in the zombie movie landscape does not offer anything new, exciting or even unique to the genre.Final verdict, my review on this movie is based on "my" overall experience with the movie, which in no way means the movie will and has not been enjoyed by many others. If you are looking for a different zombie movie, then perhaps give it a try. However, if you are not completely into this genre then perhaps skip this one.CL

i had known about this movie for many months, but never taken the plunge and watched it until now, and i can honestly say i,m glad i did. the story may not move at a fast pace, but it's interesting enough to hold the attentionit has a lot in common with Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, especially in regards to how slow the zombies move. no cgi was used for the zombies, but the gore effects were still pretty goodit may not be nonstop action from start to finish, but the zombies are always a present threat, with our 2 main protagonists always having to keep moving in order to stay ahead of themits also nice to see a zombie movie set somewhere other than America or Britain for a change, namely in Ghana and Burkina Fasoas for the story, an American military engineer attempts to escape the dead by finding a working plane after his original flight crashed, leaving him stranded. he joins forces with an African soldier who deserted his post in order to look for his son, and together they make their way through the countryside, dodging the dead as they go. if you like your zombie movies fast paced, then you probably won't enjoy this as it can be slow at times, but the story alone is enough to keep you watching

I don't understand why most reviewers keep on comparing this to George Romero's films. In my humble opinion it pales in comparison to any of Romero's films. First, it lacks the fear factor that should have been in every zombie movie. Zombie movies should be created to scare people. If there's drama in it, so be it. It should be there as a bonus but the bottomline, the story should be compelling enough in a way that it should be remembered, "oh this is an awesome zombie movie". Unfortunately, The Dead lacks the charisma of a George Romero flick. It doesn't even stand a chance when pitted toe to toe with The Walking Dead. Zombies are slow, that's understandable. But hey, the zombies in this movie are not just slow. They're "super slow". They move like turtles and yet, they'll be seen in some scenes catching up on people. I do not really see the logic about people being caught and eaten by slow and mindless creatures such as those in this film. The action is another let down in this movie. The lead character Lieutenant Brian Murphy just pump and shoots at his own free will without sweating it. The zombies are just there like target practice. The only bright spot in this movie was Murphy's short-lived acquaintance with Daniel, an African soldier. They chat and talked about their family and how they wished to get back to them (all those cheesy stuff). It was unfortunate that Danielle had to die in one scene without seeing his son. The movie could have utilized his character and side story to fill-up the boring ending.Father and son could have met and fought alongside one another against the boring zombies. That would have been fun.Oh yes, talking about the "Boring Ending". I was expecting the ending to bring out the last hurrah for this movie. As Murphy reached his destination ,(a base which has become a survival colony) he learned that his family were already dead thru a fellow military whom he was able to communicate with via radio. The boring zombies overwhelmed the brick gates (how the hell did they do this when all they do is raise their hands) and killed most of the boring survivors. Here, I was expecting to finally see lots of action. But lo and behold, it was just a prelude to the end credits har.har.har har.. Anyway, the boring Murphy met with Danielle's son before the credit rolled.. and that's it. It's done.I would not recommend this for those who are expecting a z nation, walking dead, zombieland type of zombie movie.I wouldn't recommend it for whatever purpose it may serve. A total waste of time.I have a copy of The Dead India in my collection. This is supposed to be a sequel. I'm having second thoughts watching it though as it has bad reviews written all over it.

Watched on a recommendation. Wrong. This movie is terrible, the acting, the writing. Numerous "why would you even do that" moments. They tried hard, they failed hard. The 2 lead actors did a decent job, but the acting of the zombies was pretty awful. I like the fact it was set during the day which is rare for zombie movies, but it simply meant there was even less suspense. The zombies move so awkwardly and so slowly there is absolutely no tension. Even in the scenes where there "should" be tension, all I could think was that the protagonists could easily escape with a brisk (perhaps even slow) walking pace. There are also a few scenes that require one to suspend any sort of critical thinking. I had zero emotional attachment to either of the protagonists and the ending was very predictable. All in all, save yourself an hour or so and watch something else. Almost anything else.
