The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

This is absolutely one of the best family movies I have ever watched. Actors did a good job in portraying as a family (the love and hate, the comedy) especially the kid (Deniz) that's why they are part of the Top 250 movies of all time.

The family of a left-wing journalist is torn apart after a military coup in 1980's Turkey. Baham ve Oglum is not a kind of film that deserves an 8.5/10 hell it doesn't even deserve to have a 3.2/10 it's just that bad and boring. The film's main protagonists were also very horrible and just phoning it in, the storyline was also very muddled and cheesy. I hope that one day truly good films go into the Top 250 and not films like this or anything else like that cause other great movies fall short on being in there and it's not fair at all to me and i'm sorry. In Turkey, the leftist and rightist groups were set against each other in the early 70s and later on these "revolutionists" and "idealists" not only killed each other but also engaged with the police in clashes of arms. Both groups went as far as to do bombing (or they say it was the work of the Western ideologies in play along with the secret state in Turkey). Then the Army staged a coup on September the 12 in 1980 and made thousands of arrests and significant amount of torture went on in the prisons... They even hanged 50 people that were found guilty(!) as they tortured hundreds of people (at least 171, proved) to death... And to this day the good people of Turkey suffers the consequences... Now, if we say that this movie tells one of the many stories of that era, it is absolutely true as "the father" had seen the torture and mistreat in the prison for what he had done nothing wrong... His heartbreaking story also reveals so many levels of the culture of Turkey and the bigheartedness of its people... Last but not least, if you ever claim that you have seen "drama", and your eyes won't just stop "shedding tears"; I kindly dare you watch this piece of art!.. I say it is gut-wrenching as well as mesmerising!.. So, no point in denying that the top 250 it belongs to!..

I am always in search of great foreign movies.I had never seen a Turkish movie and then I decided to watch The Bandit(1996) and loved it! Without any effort i was able to find this masterpiece. I laughed, cried, loved every single minute of it! I first watched it in 2013 and today decided to watch it again. I have recommended this movie to many friends and each one of them liked it and each one also cried. I have always loved drama movies but this movie is more than that.Great performances from everyone.Simple and Remarkable,a must-see! I will recommend everybody to watch this movie.These type of movies are the victory of Cinema.
