This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

I never thought this movie would be so good and enjoyable. I found it strange, beautiful and haunting. First of all, the cast did an amazing work. Traci Lords as the mother and Annalynne McCord as the daughter were just flawless. Second of all, I am usually a straight horror fan but this movie mixed drama, horror and dark comedy so well that I enjoyed every aspect of the film. Third of all, the plot was in all of it's weirdness actually believable and it moved forward, there were no lazy dull moments but the movie was well put together. I have always had a soft spot for Traci and I loved the fact that she did such a strong characterization. I myself were, and I guess still am as an adult, a troubled person with dark fantasies and I actually somewhat identified with Pauline. Annalynne has frankly never been one of my favorites but this movie made her just that. Roger Bart as the dad and Ariel Winter as the sister did a great job too. No to mention when I saw my favorite Criminal Minds-actor Matthew G. Gubler. I need to get this movie on my dvd-collection asap!!!

If you're a fan of sexualized hyper-violence (you know who you are), then this movie is a great find. Pauline is funny, relatable, and obviously troubled in the goriest of ways. Even though her delusions get more sick as the film progresses, you're still always on her side a little bit. Also, her prayer scenes were comedy gold. I can't recommend her enough as a character, mental illness and all. She is similar to the title character in the movie May, but I think even better. It's surprising to me this movie is not more widely acknowledged as a gem. There are some gruesome (though not particularly believable) scenes, so it's definitely not for the faint of heart. But if you can handle your gore you should have no problem with this film. This movie could have just been a shock flick, but the writing made it so much more than that. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I adored this movie and I hope to add it to my personal collection asap.

Trying to follow her delusional dreams of being a surgeon, an outcast teen becomes overwhelmed by her increasingly psychotic sexualized dreams and uses them to help appease her domineering mother. On the whole this one wasn't all that impressive. What really tends to turn this one down is the fact that there's just absolutely nothing appealing or interesting about the lead here who comes off as every outcast cliché rolled into one form and it comes off as incredibly off- putting. The obsessive desire to fit in despite being interested in grotesque and morbid hobbies, the need for continuous scatological remarks to any situational comeback ever, the overt sexualized discussions with everyone around her and butting heads with anyone and everyone around her just because she's right are just some of the behavior around here and it's so clichéd, so unremarkable and handled so ineptly that it's not only uninteresting but simply furthers here outcast feeling in the first place and makes it completely warranted for why she's treated as such which tends to make this one go along so agonizingly slow it can't sustain anything in the first half here. The one bright spot about that part, the need for her career as a surgeon, not only makes these scenes so easily foreshadowed later on but also adds delusional to her list of credentials due to the increasingly bizarre self-destructive qualities exhibited here that allow for her to throw them away despite her continuing pressure to become one which is what really tends to make this one feel so empty-headed and lame that it would've been totally justified for physical abuse at the hands of her parents to get her in line in life. Apart from all that, this one wasn't all that bad when it focused on areas other than her, as the main focus here is really on her psychotic dreams and visions that come along with her burgeoning sexuality, as these are vivid, lurid and quite graphic with tons of bloodshed, graphic and sexualized kills and a rather hypnotic quality that makes them incredibly watchable and chilling, which is nearly enough to save this almost by itself. Due to the severity of the other flaws, though, it only makes this one watchable.Rated Unrated: Extreme Graphic Violence, Strong Sexual Content including graphic sexual discussions, Nudity, Graphic Language and strong themes of menstruation.

Just because something looks cool, doesn't always mean it is. However, in the case of Excision, storyline and style surprisingly hold their own. As soon as the opening scene unfolded, I knew I was going to enjoy watching this film. It's stylish, bold, and has that perfect amount of indie flair to offset the overall horror theme. If you like films like Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Requiem For a Dream where aesthetic lends a big hand to the overall film, then you'll enjoy Excision. Though it's not a classic like the films mentioned above, it still has a really engaging story and cool direction. The film follows disturbed teen Pauline through her struggles as she tries to connect with the people around her, especially her family. But her obsessed thoughts of blood, death, and surgery keep her from doing so.The characters all have really different personalities which accentuate each other well throughout the film. The total control freak bitch mom, the miserably submissive dad, the angel younger daughter, and the misunderstood older daughter. Watching these different personalities collide really captures the viewer and emotionally puts you in there with them. Also Excision has an amazing final scene that you'll be thinking about way after the film is over.I thought this was a great film and I would definitely recommend it to any fan or horror or indie films.
