If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

The best thing about the movie is it's just over one hour so u wont feel u ruined ur time if u don't like it. The filmmakers did a good job of filling it with tension and suspense. I feel like it had a lot of potential of becoming a great film the way everything was executed but the lack of story cut its feet off pretty significantly. I would say it's more suitable as a short than a movie because of absence of so many thrilling components. It's not really scary so adding the tag "based on real events" does next to nothing. There are much better movies based on similar premise but if u have exhausted that list like me then u can definitely give this a watch. The verdict: 6/10 It's a good short , maintains suspense throughout but it fails to deliver much on that suspense and lacks a lot in story and sound that could have made this a much better movie.

All these people leaving these killer wonderful reviews must be plants...people that worked on the film, because I've seen news clips scarier than this film.Such an absolute snooze fest that I had to keep rewinding because I'd get so bored, I'd tune out and miss parts.I didn't miss anything, actually. And the fact that the killers are kids, is supposed to be scary? Please. What a colossal waste of time. The ONLY reason I gave this movie a 2, is because the brat at the beginning got what she deserved and the country Manor was pretty cool.If you're looking for scary or even creepy...avoid this borefest!!

Clementine (Olivia Bonamy) and Lucas (Michael Cohen) are a schoolteacher and writer living in peaceful solitude in the wilderness. One night, they begin to be terrorized over and over by mysterious assailants. All of a sudden, they can't feel safe even in their own home.Don't look for any more story than that in this effective thriller inspired by true events. We don't ever get to know our main characters all that well, which would have helped add to the impact of the presentation. Like many films of this kind, it works best when we don't who or what is doing this to our heroes, and it does lose something once it's time for a reveal. The opening sequence does a fine job of setting us up for what to expect, and the writers / directors, David Moreau and Xavier Palud, prove to be extremely adept at generating suspense. "Ils" will also score some points for viewers who don't care too much for excessive graphic violence; it's all about the atmosphere here. The widescreen photography is good, but the filmmakers refrain from using much in the way of color. This could just as easily have been a black & white film.Despite not having very much to work with, attractive couple Bonamy and Cohen do create reasonably likable characters within the space of 77 minutes. Of course, that doesn't mean that they won't have some viewers yelling at the screen and questioning their decisions. The ending is subtly chilling in its depiction of our antagonists and their entire "motivation".Seven out of 10.

Waiting in town for a friend to arrive in order to go for an hour long drive to Ikea (!) With her,I decided to pass the time by looking in a local DVD shop. Getting to the end of a terrible DVD row,I was surprised to find that the shelf actually had an interesting title, which led to me getting ready to meet them. The plot:Driving home, Clémentine spots a smashed up car lying by the side of the road (unknown to Clémentine, the car had contained a mum and daughter, who have both been brutally killed by a gang) Putting questions of the car to one side, Clémentine relaxes with her boyfriend Lucas in their country house.During the night, Clémentine and Lucas start to hear, strange, disturbing noises from the outside.Looking out of the window,Lucas and Clémentine spot a gang lurking in the shadows, who wants them to play.View on the film:Running a lean & (pretty) mean 74 minutes, the screenplay by co- writers/directors David Moreau & Xavier Palud chops into an unexpected slow-burn approach, which give Palud and Moreau to close off the couple with horrific isolation. Staying vague over the motive of the baddies, the writers brilliant limit the full appearance of the gang,to instead make them run psychological chills around the screen, which gives the bursts of violence from the couple and the gang a brittle brutality.Shot in a real sprawling old estate in Romania, directors Moreau & Palud take full advantage of the vast location with tightly coiled tracking shots from every side of the house raining the claustrophobia down on Lucas and Clémentine.Hitting out in grainy digital, the directors and cinematographer Axel Cosnefroy cleverly use the format to give the title a grime-covered chiller atmosphere,by the grainy format rolling the shadows round the ankles of Clémentine (played by a great, hard nails Olivia Bonamy-who suffered from claustrophobia during production) and Lucas, (played by a very good, rugged Michaël Cohen) as they try to outplay them who want to play most.
