Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Originally titled "UFO" this film follows a group of five young adults who currently are located in one household. The opening of the film appeals to people with ADD as multiple subplots are flashed across the scene, including one with George (Jean-Claude Van Damme) which seems to be an after thought. As aliens come to earth, the action is focused all on this one group with alien special effects being light until the end when the CG guys take over the film.I accidentally clicked on the director's commentary and saw Dominic Burns. He looks like he was a kid who spent his time on comic books, video games, and getting his lunch money taken away. Indeed this is the type of film I would expect from someone like that operating on a budget, using a line like, "Being a controller short of a Play Station."Once we get past the ADD opening, the film centers into some character build-up until the alien ship appears. At this point the film can't get over its low budget constraints as our same group of humans struggle. A subplot showing London command or perhaps the aliens themselves inside their ship would have been a welcomed change. Instead of flipping scenes every 10 seconds in the beginning, save some for the end.Simon Phillips does his typical good job and should have been billed as the star instead of Van Damme who doesn't appear until late in the film and that is to just supply us with an explanation.. which would have been better if the aliens had done it themselves.Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity (Maya Grant, Phillips' butt)

If you check out the other reviews of UFO, it would seem a fair percentage of viewers have given it a critical 1/10, meaning it's probably the worst film ever made. Is it? No, it's not, but that doesn't mean it's particularly good, either. In fact, when it began, I quite liked it. The characters were nice and the banter between them realistic and amusing. However, the fact is that the idea far exceeds the budget. The titular 'UFOs' only make two appearances in the first hour, leaving much of the setting in people's living rooms. The story focuses on the effects on the everyday population at seeing giant UFOs hovering above the cities (when you start to see a bit more of the aliens near the end, there's a definite resemblance to the Skyline monsters). The director tries to make up for this by long rambling scenes which don't really go anywhere, plus (attempted) 'cool' camera angles where the camera rotates around people and is placed at funny angles. However, when the setting is simply someone's kitchen, it's about as stylish as waving a camcorder around in your Nan's house. Many people have criticised the acting talent on display here. It didn't bother me that much. Sean (son of Pierce) Brosnan is the star and puts in a good performance and everyone seemed to play their parts accordingly (what else do you want/expect in a low budget B-movie?).Perhaps what most people hate about this film is the way it's advertised (and ignore the not-so-subtle posters for 'Airborne' by the same director). If you look at the UK artwork to support it, you may be duped into thinking it's some sort of Independence Day style action romp, starring Jean Claude Van Damme. However, the 'muscles from Brussels' is only in it for about ten minutes and his part is little more than a cameo (some of which he doesn't even feature in the same shot as other actors, making it look like he filmed his scenes on his own somewhere in Hollywood).I can't really recommend this film, even though it's not quite as bad as some are making it out to be. If you like B-movies, then there's better about. Sadly, what could have been a decent little B-movie never had the right budget to really live up to its promise.

I believe the intent of this movie is to show how regular people react to desperate situations between each other. Although the title would indicate otherwise, it really is earthling against earthling in this film as the major source of conflict. This movie suffers from unnecessarily drawn out scenes that detract from that goal: the extended bar scene in the beginning, the sex scene in the beginning, any of the fighting scenes. The alien vessels and special effects were hokey. If I had to say one good thing about this movie, it is that most of the major characters died leaving no one for a drawn out ending.

if you are someone who likes the idea of Pierce Brosnan but are not prepared to commit to watching a film that he stars in then UFO, also known as Alien Uprising, is perfect for you.this film is perfectly serviceable for anyone who wants to watch a film that features people on the outskirts of the life of Pierce, the people who only have a footprint in segments of the Venn Diagram of the life of this celebrated actor.most prominent on the Pierce Brosnan Venn Diagram in the film is of course Sean Brosnan, the actor's son. he is not to be confused with Sean Bean or Sean Pertwee, although the latter also features.the Pierce connections do not end there, as Julian Glover out of Remmington Steele, what Pierce Brosnan was also in, features.if you are looking for a film that has tedious connections to Pierce Brosnan but has no Pierce Brosnan in it, or if you simply think every film should feature no more than 8 minutes of a Belgian actor, then this is for you.
