It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

"Based on a true story." Understanding this is key to fully appreciating the joy, soul and craftsmanship that went into creating this gem.The film works as a stand alone piece in itself - the teenagers I watched it with gave it an average rating of 7.5 - covering the full spectrum of types of comedy from slapstick to satire.Being of a similar age to Harry, I was exposed to the same kind of visual entertainment as a child in 70's Britain. So, in addition to the wonderfully surreal world that this genius envelopes himself in, I was able to cherish the the way he weaved in references drawn from a wide range of cultural tropes such as the Children's Film Foundation, American cartoons, black and white adventure films shown on afternoon t.v., The Goodies, pantomime, and public information films amongst others.Overall, a fantastical masterpiece richly deserving the honour bestowed on him by the University of Kent.

Harry has an evil twin brother, who looks like Matt Lucas, who wants Harry's pet hamster to finish off his weird hamster town type thing. He hires Simon Bird, and a Richard Keil lookalike to apprehend the hamster, but Harry thinks that the hamster only has a week to live, so he takes him on a trip of a lifetime, to Blackpole.....Well come on, what did you expect? It's called The Harry Hill Movie, it was released the week before Christmas, and it's aimed at the little ones, so it's hardly going for the art-house crowd. As you would expect, it's bonkers, confused, and way over the top, but Harry has that presence that you can almost forgive him for doing this, and give praise for him at least trying to give us some sort of plot and narrative. It's also a musical if you want to put the knife in a little deeper, and features a mutant hamster, shell people, and a strange reference to The House Of Wax.Out of all the TV characters and series that get big screen incarnations, this is far from the worst one out there, because it just doesn't even try to make any sense of it's own narrative.Great for a Saturday morning when you've woke up unexpectedly early and have nothing to do.

I was quite looking forward to this film and I was very surprised to see how low it is rated on IMDb. On one hand I want to say that Hill's comedy can be quite niche so maybe people just didn't like him when he is on form, but then on the other, it is hard to call him an acquired taste when his brand of absurdity held court on Saturday night television for so many years. Anyway, the film has a typically silly plot as Harry believes his hamster has mere days to live and decides to give him his heart's desire – a trip to Blackpool (Harry cannot speak hamster, Abu actually wanted to meet Rihanna). Anyway, while Harry, Abu and his Nan sets off on their trip, they are pursued by two henchmen trying to kidnap Abu for the sinister motives of Otto, Harry's long lost brother (yes, it's an evil twin thing).I should really be target audience for this film – or at least I should have many more positive words for it than I have seen from others here. In some ways I do because I did like some of the absurd stuff and some of the set pieces that made me chuckle, but unfortunately they are hard to remember in the sea of those that did not. It is a problem with Hill's style of comedy, you really need to be in the mood for it and from his side it needs to be bang on the money or else it just seems silly and stupid rather than wonderfully absurd and imaginative. Rewatching his old Channel 4 show recently, he did manage to consistently hit the right side of that line but with this film too much of it is silly. Some of it might have worked were it not just so apropos of nothing – so bits that just get thrown in for almost no reason. Some of it is badly misjudged and "rapping nan" in particular is something that just should have been thrown out in the writers' room. The musical numbers have some energy but strangely no laughs at all; the carwash song with the woman from the Noisettes is fun but then other songs just seem to come from nowhere and go nowhere. I enjoy the Les Mis one but the more the film just piles on with references later on, the less it seems to work. Children will still like it and if you are a total fan of Hill's humor no matter whether it is good or not so good, then you may enjoy this, but otherwise it must be said that there is really too much silliness for the fewer actually good bits to overcome.

First of all i liked harry hill doing TV burp he was funny. Now he is dead to me he does not make me laugh like he used to. The film makes no sense and its just as bad as Keith lemon the film (oh the horror of that film). This movie has to be as bad as transformers 2. Julie Walters has good in her career but now she went the wrong way in acting. Harry hill's credit to comedy is gone like the hair on his head. Harry hills TV burp will never be the same again. The reason i give this movie 2 stars out of 10 is because i liked the idea that harry hill wanted to do a movie instead of just TV.Bad bad bad bad bad bad. This movie is so bad it makes Adam sanders jack and Jill look a wee bit good. Bad bad bad bad bad bad. If you liked this movie you either 1 love bad comedy's or 2 don't have a life and you laugh at anything.
