In the year 1999, a young woman leaves her quaint seaside house and returns to the city, leaving in the mailbox a card for the next owner, with instructions to forward any mail of hers to the new address. In the year 1997, a jaded young architect moves into the same house--and finds the letter. Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

Sad when good movies don't hit the spotlight because they just don't have the means, but when hollywood takes your idea, it still gets a hundred million in box office when yours doesnt get a fraction of that. I enjoyed the korean (original) better than the copy 'The Lake House'

'I hope you're ready to hear a long and magical tale.' This is what Il Mare or Siworae is about; a slow moving love story that will make your heart ache with pain, joy and inspiration. This little Korean gem of love and lost is underrated and almost unknown to most. It centers on a tale where two people are connected by a mail box although they live two years apart. With their letter exchange between each other they manage to forge a friendship which later develops into a love stronger than time and space could divide.Shot is a drab looking place this movie carries itself with the help of a credible cast, a powerful storyline and a wistful jazzy score that will tug on your heartstrings from all directions.Lovers of tearjerkers, romantic sagas and emotionally charged moments will have no trouble snuggling down with this. It is one of those movies that will make you wonder why your love life is nothing but a mere convenience without so much as a fanfare or a sparkle. An English version of this movie was remade by Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock call The Lake House. It's hard to compare the two since they are of different cultures, but they're both enchanting in their own right while sharing only similar plot.Other movies that share similar nostalgic and wistful sentiments are Serendipity, Cinema Paradiso, The Notebook and many many more. Get a shoulder, a hanky or a pet to sit beside you before you start.

From reading the plot of this film, I didn't expect to like it. Two people who have never met exchange letters through time via a magical mailbox. However it is one of my favourite films.Il Mare is set in an idyllic location and is beautifully shot and beautifully acted creating an unforgettable romantic atmosphere. The characters convey loneliness more accurately than I have seen in any other film. The time-shift plot is also very engaging and the whole package lasts a perfect 90 minutes. Overall - So good I could leave it playing on loop

This Korean film centres around a seaside house on the ocean. The lovers exist in different times (2000 and 1998) and can only communicate via the house's wooden mailbox. Their "long distance" relationship deepens and they try to find a way to be together. Overall very good. Good story, acting, & musical score. It has a sadness and visually stunning cinematography that done so well in many Korean films. The composition, lighting etc in many of the scenes are like beautiful works of art. I thought it dragged a bit in the middle but not overly.See this film if you're tired of the summer action blockbusters.I haven't seen the Sandra Bullock/Keanu Reeves remake (The Lake House, 2006) but I would bet it's not as good. Mainly, because it's got Reeves and Bullock in it.
