Disheartened by futile combat, appalled by the corruption of their South Vietnamese ally, and constantly endangered by the incompetence of their own company commander, the young men find a possible way out of the war. They are told that if they purposely lose a soccer game against a South Vietnamese team, they can spend the rest of their tour playing exhibition games behind the lines.

"The Boys in Company C" is like two movies in one. The first part is a structured boot camp, run by Drill Seargent R. Lee Ermey. It's all about preparing a nice assortment of somewhat stereotyped raw recruits for battle in Vietnam. The second part of the film is a tale of almost total chaos, with special emphasis on inept officers. Body bag counts seem to somehow have value, and that specter follows the privates throughout the remainder of the film. The acting is good, the action sparse, and we are certainly presented a unique, though unsatisfying view of the War. For what it is, "The Boys in Company C" is entertaining, but an uneasiness prevails throughout, as this seems to be a movie on a collision course with itself. - MERK

Second only to SIEGE OF FIREBASE GLORIA, this is the best Nam flick made so far. It celebrates the absurdity and stupidity of war, yet at the same time reminds you that if you don't want to fight for your freedom, better start learning Vietnamese, Russian, or Chinese! The characters are real, yet farcical (Colonel Ngo Long Dhong?), and their actions from time to time border on the insane, but then something happens to let you know just how human the characters are. I served with a frontline infantry company as a pointman, surviving two tours, so I can attest to most of the realism in the film. It just came out on DVD, so at the very least rent or borrow it, and I think you'll be buying it soon!

i want to say the movie boys of company c was great!! the movie showed what i believed to be what it was like in Vietnam. and showed the lives of the characters to be real. i also have seen full metal jacket, and that movie is also great, and is rank high on the list as boy of company c, great movies, can't wait for boys of company c to come out on DVD, i want to see the movie jar head and i hope it is as good. i like the war pictures, saving private Ryan was a good movie, have not seen jar head yet but hope it is a good movie, hamburger hill great, i think Torah Torah Torah was also a good war movie. so i'm saying is that there is a lot of great war movies that i would love to own on DVD someday. and i just would like everybody to know that.

I saw Boys of Company C when it came out with a buddy who was in Vietnam with me in 1968. We were both 0311s (rifleman) in a rifle platoon. For starters, recruits never had relationships or dialogues with drill instructors as portrayed in Boys. While in Vietnam I never conversed with a captain, as depicted in Boys who was the company commander; unless you were a radioman there was little need to speak directly to a captain. The soccer game in Vietnam came across as a tired movie vehicle. That is, when you run out of script throw in a sporting event for filler and a possible conclusion.Boys ranks with Heartbreak Ridge and The Siege of Firebase Gloria as war movie screenplays that should have been relegated to the REJECT pile. Whoever threw this stinker together should have been court martialed and been given the same sentence as Breaker Morant: Rule .303
