An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

I really enjoyed this movie which was surprising as I thought I wouldn't but I really did. I like the fact that It keeps you guess who the killer is and you know it is either brain or Dwight but you are never quite sure who it is until it is revealed. Which one is it you ask well you are just going to have to watch the movie to find out. Although there were not any moments in this movie that scared me witless there were ea few times that I jumped out of my seat a little bit. The scene where the music is following Paula and the maths teacher from room to room is by far my favorite scene in this movie. It may surprise you that Brad Pitt in my opinion was not the stand out actor in this movie it was Donovan Leitch jr. I really liked the way he played the character in this movie and think by far he was the best actor in this movie. I also like the fact that it has humor all the way through it particular at the end with Paula's dad. Watch out for the pun he makes. Overall I thought this movie was really entertaining and that is why I gave it 7/10. I do recommend that if you just want to be entertained by a horror movie then check this out!

A killer on the loose is murdering students and teachers from a cool high school. Now it's up to the popular kids and the most ignored of them, recently released from a psychiatric hospital, to solve the mystery behind the murders. In this almost ludicrous and predictable whodunit, everything is what appears to be and our fun is to see how foolish director and writer can get while coming up with obvious devices that doesn't even try to fool and impress the viewers. Maybe some of the violence was unexpected but they sure were looking for the laughs. And this is a barrel of laughter. C'mon, it's not that bad. It's embarrassingly fun to watch a bunch of actors fully knowing they're stinking on scene, trying hard to look authentic and reliable, in this sort of parody of teen slasher flicks. A pretty good trash, now with a heavy cult following from Brad Pitt fans who are curious in seeing one of his earliest roles. And truth be told, he's the only one who worked the hardest to look good enough, in opposition to the cheesy acting from almost everyone. But Donovan Leitch steals the show in a weird way. As the troubled and lonesome Brian Woods, he's the most memorable face from this thing with his terrifying yet good looking eyes and face, a Ricky Fits kind of character - definitely not obsessed, just curious. But why does he have to dress like Frankenstein?Although heavily inspired but countless (and better) movies, this one had its original parts. High point is when the killer challenges the math teacher to solve a difficult equation and discover which door from the classroom is the safe passage. That scene had me giving some nervous laughs.It's enjoyable but only when you're in the mood to have fun and not take anything you see here in a serious way. But in the end "Cutting Class" shows us that skipping class is far more worse than killing people. Ouch. 6/10

I'll start with the few pros. Brad Pitt. End of pros. He is THE only good actor in this movie, and even he couldn't save it from being awful. The special effects were average at best. The blood looked fake, and that's bad when you have a slasher movie to make. The mystery behind the killer is hidden at first when you believe it's the red herring. They actually did that well. But when they blatantly give you a piece of daunting evidence its the killer it's too ludicrous to believe so you believe the opposite. And I managed to discover who the killer was within moments of this idiotic discovery of the(SPOILER, Ring, End Spoiler)Cutting Class offers nothing new or even fresh to the slasher sub genre. EVERY death is bland and uninspired. Even the original deaths were too hokey to believe. I understand its a horror-comedy but even the comedy parts weren't funny. A failed attempt to kill the killer with sodium springs to mind.Please avoid this film. IT is one of the few films I ever rated below a 3. I wouldn't even catch it on TV.

Cutting Class (1989) 1/2 (out of 4) Incredibly bad slasher film sat on the shelf for many years but finally got released after Brad Pitt became a huge star. I'm sure Pitt wasn't too thrilled with this but he's the only reason this film doesn't get a BOMB rating. Jill Schoelen and Pitt play a couple who find themselves trying to discover who is killing all of their classmates. Fingers point to a former friend who was just released from a mental house due to killing his father. This is a really bad film and there's no way around that fact but seeing someone like Pitt in a movie like this makes it somewhat entertaining. Pitt isn't too bad in the film but God knows no one will mistake this for Fight Club or something to that nature. The death scenes are all incredibly lame and the limited amount of nudity does nothing. Martin Mull plays the girl's father and his scenes are the strangest of the film as they come off as a spoof yet these scenes go against everything else going on in the movie. Roddy McDowall plays the perverted school principle.
