Matt falls for Casey, the new girl in school. She's fun-loving and eccentric, but there's a darkness to her whimsy that Matt can't begin to comprehend. When Casey attempts to commit suicide, her parents place her in a mental institution. Matt springs her out, and together the young lovers head on a road trip. They believe their love can "cure" Casey's problems. Matt starts to wonder, though, if are they inspired or misguided.

Mad Love (1995) *** (out of 4)Good boy Matt (Chris O'Donnell) has Casey (Drew Barrymore) move into the house across from his. Matt uses a telescope to check her out and they finally meet but before too long he realizes that she is suffering from some mental problems.MAD LOVE pretty much came and went from theaters without making too much of a splash. By today's standards, it was probably a big disappointment as you had two hot young stars and the film just didn't catch on them and it really hasn't gained any sort of following in the years since, which is too bad and especially if you're fans of O'Donnell and Barrymore.Look, this film is rather stupid in its simple view of mental illness but at the same time there's no question that the two leads are quite good together and both of them deliver fine performances, which makes this film much more watchable than it would have been otherwise. If you're a fan of the two stars then the film is worth checking out as long as your expectations aren't too high. The biggest problem with the movie is that the O'Donnell character is a bit blind and does a few too many stupid things. The film has a somewhat far-fetched story but it's really trying hard to be a tragic love story ala Romeo and Juliet, although certainly not on the same level. The romance between the young stars work and Barrymore certainly steals the show with her performance as the damaged young woman.

I love Drew Barrymore and I've never seen her look more desirable than in this movie. She has short blonde hair and a beautiful smile.Drew is a chick with some kind of mental problem. She soon meets Chris O'Donnell, who decides it would be a good idea to shirk all responsibility to his family in favor of kidnapping Drew and hitting the road as a fugitive. Chris is so dumb, he doesn't leave Seattle for Canada, which is only a few miles north. No, Chris is smarter than that. He heads for Mexico! What a dweeb. The unlikely duo stumbles into a restaurant in Salinas (California) where Drew misses out on the shrimp she ordered so she can go to the toilet, take off the ugly dress Chris bought for her, and crawl around on the floor while checking for a secret door behind the commode. These adventures continue for awhile until Drew comes to her senses and dumps O'Dumbbell.OK for teenyboppers. Others may be bored out of their freaking minds.

Mad Love success is formally down to the leads Drew Barrymore and Chris O' Donnell. Their chemistry together, their development, twists and turns make you genuinely care about the characters. If that's the only reason you see the film then go right ahead. The subject of Bi-Polar is sensitively approached under the direction of Antonia Bird and I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite coming - of age dramas and made me fall in love with both Barrymore and O'Donnell and follow along on their incredible journey together. Some may guffaw at the cinematography, it is a fairly old film but the most important thing is the story and the acting which remain strong throughout.

Spoilers Alert****************** I really thought this movie wasn't good enough for me. It had bad things in it some aren't for dicussing and I really think this movie should have been R rated to the fact that the girl is clinically deppressed and their is some what a littlee of rage and violence in this movie. Some people think it was great. I am a big fan of her movvies and this was the only one I have hated out of her millenium of movies. I mean come on here people she is deppressed and they run away to Mexico to help her. No adalts were their and how is that helping her. It was a very pitiful movie. I thought I would never watch it again. I gave it one more shot by watching it one more time and it didn't work. This movie is an outrage to me and some of the society. 1/10
